Evolution of Democracy That Includes Liberal Ideas

I do think that the concept of democracy has evolved to include liberal ideas as necessary conditions. Back then only the elite were allowed to vote in elections, the elite was considered to be the rich white men. Later on, any white male was able to vote which eventually led to Male African Americans get the right to vote. In the 1920s Women got the right to vote. This is an example of one of the first liberal necessary conditions that were added to democracy to help it evolve over time.

If you keep looking back into the past you can see how democracy ha changed back then liberal democracy was seen as the Berlin wall falling two cities torn by different governments.

Once the wall fell it gave people hope and began to build on the liberal democracy movement all over the world. A liberal Democracy started to be seen as the only legitimate form of government. Today the ideas of freedom and democracy are so closely allied in the phrase liberal democracy (Graham 1992).

Today the concept of Democracy ha evolved even more to include liberal ideas. Back then the nation was believed to be on the nation under God. Today that is a huge problem given the fact that people believe that regimes are claiming to be based on God’s words rather than the will of the people.

More liberal ideas are included in today's democracies such as the constant fight for being pro-choice or pro-life. Some states have approved abortion clinics while others say it a sin.

However, whether it Is a sin or not the fact that some states are allowing to have clinics it shows how democracy has evolved to be a more liberal idea (Friedan, 2013). In the olden days that wouldn’t even be talked about or allowed so these conditions would have not existed if democracy did not evolve. “The modern conception of a state as a liberal democracy envisages that the state takes on the role of sole agency in realizing the values of equal liberty and distributive justice to its citizens. The literature on society's development has focused on and dwelt thoroughly on this supposed agency of the state in society. In doing this, the role that religion and other agents play in development is inadvertently ignored,” ( Onwuegbuchulam & Paul 2019).

With democracy being more liberal religion is stepping out of the control of the state. Democracies have definitely evolved to include liberal ideas because it is accepting our social norms now that would have not been accepted in the past. with recent waves of nationalism/societies turning inward I believe democracy would keep changing to address its people's needs. I am not sure if it will survive because yes change is good but what if it changes so much that it is not even democracy anymore? I do not believe it is in danger but I am fully not sure that it depends on the reason it is changing.
