1. Client:

The very first stakeholder I am going to assess is the clients which are external stakeholders. Consumers add to profit levels and turnover through purchasing products and services. These Customers are stakeholders in a company for monetary factors, clients do not desire to need to spend an extreme amount of cash to purchase products for regular monthly bases, therefore if the products are cheaper in Asda, than they are in another shop such as Tesco then clients will buy the cheaper one which then draws in more stakeholders which are costumers.

In the UK Customers demand more affordable items so local and nationwide stores such as Asda will try to have the least expensive items for consumers to buy which then motivates competition between the other shops, whichever shop has the cheapest rate for a specific item then they would be bring in all the customers.

Secondly the stakeholder I’m going to discuss in the organization is the owners. The owners want to prosper and make money. They also need to care about how the business is running and how it will be more successful by investing money. Owners in Asda take cares of things such as the recruitment policy. This is because just like any other organization, Asda want to recruit well driven people to work in their organization in order for them to be doing well in the market. Another interest an owner in Asda may have is opening and closing down buildings which some people will agree or disagree on. The owners of Tesco has the power to close down one of its stores if they feel they are making losses all the time or maybe because rival competitors are in a nearby location and are attracting all the customers away from their organization. However, this will not go down well with the employees of the store because they are going to lose their jobs.

If Asda wasn’t as successful as it is today in the UK then the owners wouldn’t be as confident to keep their service running for the organization. Owners are mainly interested in how much profit Asda generates because they get a share of profit as a dividend. Shareholders play a big role in raising investment for Asda. On other hand shareholders also help Asda to gain its aim. As Asda’s main aim is to maximize their profit so Asda can produce profit by investing in right product at right time. Mostly investment is generated through shareholders in large businesses. Owners hope to gain business growth as it will always generate profit. Owners have the most influence on the aims of a business, this is because they are the last people who decide what is going to happen suggestions may be made by other people however, they have to run past the owners for a final decisions.

3. Employee:

The third stakeholder I am going to evaluate is the employees which are internal stakeholders. An employee is a person hired by an employer to do a specific job in the organization. Employees are important as any other stakeholder because they have first contact with customers so if the customers want to ask a question about the organization or about a product then the employees can help with the issue and that employees could also recommend products to customers which will bring in more which will bring in more profit to the organization. Employees are as important as Owners in Asda because they attend work and help the business achieve its goals by making the business successful. One of the most common interests the employees of Asda have is that they want maximum wages for the work they put in.

As well as this they expect promotions if they have been working at a lower role in the organization for a couple of years and want to move up in the organization. These are addressed through staff meetings where these issues are bought up and dealt with. Furthermore then it is just up to the managers to decide what they want to do. If they get permission from the owners to give staff promotions and give pay rises for outstanding work then everyone will be happy and most importantly the employees will be happy which will lead to many benefits such as a good working environment. Employees have a huge impact on influencing the aims of asda.one of the main aims of Asda is to recycle as much waste as they can.

4. Suppliers:

The fourth stakeholders I’m going to discuss are the Suppliers. A supplier is usually a large business that manufactures materials into good which can be sold onto stores such as Asda. Suppliers are important to a business because without them, the business would not have any products to sell to the general public meaning they will not generate any profits. However suppliers rely on business to buy their products meaning it is two way relationships. Business such as Asda rely greatly on supplies as they help their business run efficiently by providing goods on time, this is important as supplies could lose custom if they weren’t punctual enough towards their buyers.

An example of the supplies that Asda receive is walker’s crisps a snack based company which modify raw materials into crisps which are then sold to the supermarket. The influence that the supplies exert is that they produce quality products which helps Asda achieve there aim as it is to provide consumers with quality products. Asda hope to gain from their suppliers is business growth because this is one of the main interests that suppliers have business this is because if the business keep on growing and developing, then they are most likely to want or need a larger volume of products from suppliers, this means that suppliers will be generating a higher profit.

5. Government:

Moving down the list of the stakeholders Government is also an important stakeholder of the Asda. Government has mainly interest in collecting taxes. Government is also concerned about the employment provided by Asda. Asda has to follow the each every law and policies set by the government. So there is a two way interest in this category. Asda helps governments to gain its aim which high level of employment. Government also helps Asda in the time of recession or when Asda will be near to collapse by providing financial support. However with the Government they can influence Asda by introducing new laws that can affect operations such as the National Minimum Wage, or they can raise Corporation Tax which would eat into Asda profits.

6. Local community:

To a business a local community is people who live in the same place or area in a moderate distance away from their location and under the same local government. The local community wants good quality products from a business otherwise they are unlikely to purchase anything so if Asda did not achieve their aims they lose customers. Good quality products lead to repeat of costumers as they are likely satisfied with what they bought from the Asda local store. The local community is important when it comes to the aims of a business; this is because aims have to resolve around the business community, they have to match the characteristics of the community to their business in order for it to succeed. By Asda asking the local community of what they thought about their shopping experiences, this was done by filling out a simple questionnaire which could be completed in store or at home. These opinions get put into consideration and help develop the customers shopping experience by addressing the issues.

7. Trade unions:

Trade unions are an external stakeholder of the business because of the business makes decisions they do not necessarily have to be informed. Asda is affected greatly by trade unions as before employees were not allowed to join trade unions while working for them but as legislation has changed this clause has also changed. I believe this was done to intimidate employees and make them think they cannot do anything to oppose decisions made by the owners of the business as they do not have any voice in the decisions.

But this has also changed now employees are allowed to join trade unions and protest against working policies that may be seen unfair to the employees. They also have the right to protest if they not given the right amount of pay or the correct environment for suitable working conditions within the workplace. Trade unions are there to discuss with your employer and protest on your behalf if you believe you are not being treated fairly in your place of work.

Matrix –
The matrix structure is usually found in organizations that can deal with the special one off type of projects, also these companies can also work on several projects all at the same time. Although while all of these projects are ongoing, they have and expert team seeing it through making sure it goes well. And the experts also support the major functions of the organization, and by this I mean the financial, human resources and production.

Product –
A product structure is the way an organization represents the parts of a product and the way they fit together and interact, also the organized levels in the detail based on the type of structure. Also this type of structure that is also used to manage the changes, testing and the problem resolution for the Complex products with a large number of parts and functions.

Functional –
The functional structure is more of an organizational structure where the employees are all grouped hierarchically and then these are managed through the clear lines of authority and then only report to the only person in charge

Geographic -
The geographical structure is the way an organization put things into a geographical units which are regional, national, and international, this means that they will need to report to one central headquarter, by doing this is administers to the core functions such as the planning and marketing. This is a diagram that shows you the initial structure of a company, from showing who each employee has to go through to get a job done for example- you have the manager, a few deputy managers and then the workers. ASDA as six to seven layers below the CEO; this means that they have a lot of people to go through.

Divisions of work –
The divisions of work are where a company has different types of works and these are the manager, a few deputy managers and then the workers. Having these divisions at work means that the employees know, who to talk to if they need help.

Lines of control -
This is important that they have deputy manager just in case the manager is in a meeting, and the workers need help the deputy mangers are second in line to be in charge if help if needed or if there is a problem. This also means that each layer in the structure for ASDA has a certain amount of control.

Communication –
Communication is where each layer of the structure passes on information and the changes a business may take to make the business more successful, this means also from the top layer to the bottom, everyone will find out things, having this structure will make things easy for ASDA to get information across.

Span of control –
Span on control is where each person in the structure can have control over a certain amount of people. For example for this is like a deputy manager has, a span of control over the admin sections and then the admin sections, would have a span of control over the other departments etc.

Chain of Command –
Chain of command is how many layers in a structure will need commands, for example ASDA has seven layers, this means that six of them layers will need commands.

Hierarchical structure/pyramid
This is used to show the organization of a company from each level, it is important that the managers for ASDA are not responsible for more people than they cannot control the number of people a person can control is classed as the span of control

ASDA’s Organizational Structure -
The organizational structure ASDA has is a hierarchical style and this means, that there will be fewer people at the top of the company managing the people below. Plus this also will allow the managing directors, at the top of this chart to make the big decisions about which way the business should take next. ASDA’S structure consists of seven layers; and these are each linked with a chain of command of six, this then means some messages may become distorted; also the CEO has authority over everyone but direct responsibility of 6 subordinates which means he has a span of 6. Also the Human Resources department will work with all the different departments and will offer the training that will be needed, and will also help when recruiting the key people for the different areas. Also an example of this is the buyer may also leave a produce and then they will need to recruit someone who has an experience and knowledge about buying products. Also the IT department will also work with all the other departments, because this department is always looking for new ways of doing things to help the business progress and move forward.

Also these people are not skilled buyers or interviewers for the business but they are also skilled in the ICT section and can fix problems and also design a new system for the whole business which they then may use. Also the PR Department work extremely close with the press and they will let them know if there are any stories to report about ASDA, as they try to ensure that ASDA will be seen in a positive light, but this is not always possible for example when there was the big crisis over the meat.

The background of ASDA started out as a group of Yorkshire Farmers and this was the beginning of ASDA in the 1920’s, also in the 1999 ASDA became more of a successful business when the parent owner brought in (Wal-Mart), in the beginning they started out from a market selling products in Leeds, but since then they grew out in to the northern area, then up to being a big based supermarket, and most successful in the European area.

Donation collecting department organize events in different cities to collect donations, they style of getting donations works better because people sometime don’t believe in companies which collects donation only through internet. These types of event provide true image of the companies. People also like to donate directly rather than by debit card over internet. On other hand these event also covers a lot of audience from different city to collect donations. This style of working helps them raise more donations which is Shelter’s main aim.

It’s also has built charity shops all around the UK to sell cheap goods. Production area helps shops buy providing supply of goods at right time. This style of working helps them generate profits through sales and then they add the profit with donations. By high donations can help more homeless people. Actually there are two aims fulfils together because profit increase their donation which there aim and then they help homeless which same donations which another main aim of shelter.

Human resources area helps by future planning and providing new promotion methods. Basically this department plays a big role in gaining high donations and providing services to homelessness animals. Because this department arrange all meetings to discuss how the company can increase its donations. Like promotion methods TV ads and etc. They also help to arrange events for collecting donations. Another major help is that they provide staff service trainings and pay their salaries.
