Modern Inequality in America

Life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievementJames Truslow Adamis, 1931Equal opportunity means similar treatment of all people. This means factors like such as circumstances of birth, upbringing, having well-connected relatives or friends, religion, sex, ethnicity, race, caste or involuntary personal attributes such as disability, age, gender, identity or sexual orientation should not play a single role. In this text will we look into this manner and to see if the statement that equal opportunity is a myth in USA.

Obama's remarks at the College Opportunity Summit which goes like this: Now, as a nation, we don't promise equal outcomes, but we were founded on the idea that everybody should have an equal opportunity to succeed. No matter who you are, what you look like, where you come from, you can make it. That's an essential promise of America. Where you start should not determine where you end up. This sounds very nice, but unfortunately some kids are involuntary born in a bad neighbourhood.

Where your opportunities already get narrower.

Some people say life is full of random things and do the best with what you've got. Where some mathematician says random things is just probabilities. One way to look at it it's like if one action is like the Russian Matryoshka doll. And as more times you open it you see smaller dolls. The smaller dolls are smaller actions which brings to the big action or the big happening, like if you get good grades.

Factors like which teacher you have, how you studied, which themes you had for the test, good breakfast and a good night sleep. All these small dolls are variables which decides how the big doll will be. Thence small factors decide how the outcome will be. If these small factors as where you live. You are, of course, then having a different race contrast as to someone else living in a wealthy family. Thus you have different opportunities if you live in a wealthy family, and vice verca.

Deborah Orr once said: Therein lies the problem with the idea of equal opportunity for all. Some people are simply better placed to take advantage of opportunity. Contrast to Obama whereas he says everyone has the same opportunity to succeed. This seems to be false, but he does say that we don't promise equal outcomes. Which is in fact a good thing. Because we can't have every person to be shrewd, we need workers, painters etc. To encourage equal rights and equal opportunity, children's needs and opportunities should be of paramount. The definition of equal opportunity goes like this:Equal opportunity: a situation in which people have the same opportunities in life as other people, without being treated in an unfair way because of their race, sex, sexuality, religion or ageMacmillan dictionaryIf you look at the definition of equal opportunity. USA still have some work to do, to achieve zero inequality.

There are still jobs where they don't take the most qualified person and rather choose the person they like the most. If it's about race or ethnicity it can be discussable. In the text The toilet where this girl in South Africa under Apartheid is not treated equal. The plot is in South Africa, but it was almost the same in the USA during that time of period. Time has changed though. It has become a lot better. But the statement that everyone begins in the same race is false. Maybe with the right hard work, and being at the right time and place, you can just maybe crawl to the 1st division race. Therefore, there is still people saying that this statement is a myth, which is truly understandable under the circumstances in the USA.For the aforementioned reasons, there is no doubt that equal opportunity in the USA is only a myth. To be fair there is no country where you have one hundred percent equal opportunity. You do have very good facilities and education in Scandinavia as seen on the diagram above in the text, but there isn't zero inequality. In a pickle there is a lot of theories discussing this manner but generally they agree on that once the race begins, who wins is a function of talent, hard work and competitive drive.
