Energy Conservation Essay
In today’s world, energy conservation is essential. Energy has been used to advance technology, run cars, power homes, and many other things. Despite the tremendous amount of benefits from using energy, our atmosphere is currently suffering the after-effects of global warming. We need to start asking ourselves, “What can I do to conserve energy? ” There are many efficient ways to conserve energy such as changing the type of light bulbs we use at home, recycling, and driving less often. First, one can replace regular incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs to use less energy at home.
According to juniorenergy. org, twenty five percent of our electric bill is for lighting. By changing your light bulbs, it would help prevent large bill payments. Also, incandescent light bulbs convert up to ninety percent of the electricity they consume into heat. However, recent studies show that compact fluorescent light bulbs are four times as efficient as incandescent bulbs. Not only do the compact fluorescent light bulbs last longer, but they are a lot less expensive than regular light bulbs. So, why waste money when there are better options? To continue, recycling plays an important role in conserving energy.
Did you know that in 2009, Americans produced enough waste to circle the Earth twenty four times (www. kab. org)? Before shopping for groceries, we should gather as many bags as we can and take them with us. When finished shopping, we can reuse those bags and recycle again. Recycling plastics, papers, and metals in recycling bins helps extend the usefulness of these materials once they have served their initial purpose by sending these items to places where they can be reprocessed. Aside from recycling, choosing different forms of transportation can help conserve energy.
We can reduce the number of miles we drive by riding a bike, walking, carpooling with friends or families or taking mass transit. Riding with your coworkers or friends can diminish the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air. In addition, taking a public mass transit such as a train or bus saves money from purchasing fuel. Instead of driving to a nearby destination, we could improve our health once in a while by walking or riding a bike. Did you know that walking can reduce body fat and lower blood pressure? As a result, choosing a different form of transportation could benefit us in many ways.
In conclusion, energy conservation is essential in order to prevent global warming. Changing a regular light bulb to a compact fluorescent light bulb could reduce the amount of electricity consumed. Not only are they more efficient, but they last a lot longer. Recycling things such as plastic and paper can help them be remanufactured and serve another purpose. Choosing a different form of mass transit conserves energy and prevents extra carbon dioxide from being released in the air. Since energy is the pivotal key to modern development, we must preserve energy in every way possible.
