In England, students can leave the school at the end of June as long as they will be 16 by the end of that year’s summer holiday. At this point pupils can decide if they want to stay and continue their education or to start employment. There are many opportunities given and students can choose between these options.
The first option for young people is to go full time education in school or college. The second opportunity is to undertake training through an apprenticeship or traineeship.
The last way is to spend 20 hours or more a week working or volunteering while in part-time education/training, e.g. developing skills or interests via day/evening classes, distance learning or online course.
Adults aged 18 and over have many options in education. They can have access to adult education through courses in FE college or Adult Education Centre or online, e.g. A levels, BTEC higher nationals. Adults under 25 can also apply for an apprenticeship or get a job or volunteer to get experience, e.
g. vocational and sector specific courses. They can also undertake Higher education at a university or do an Open University course.
