The Kingdom of fungi have some of the most important organisms ecologically and economically. Economically they contribute to many different industries such as the food and medical industries. Although there are many fungi that are useful to use there are some that are harmful and cause disease such as Thyrotrophic SSP. Which causes athlete's foot and ringworm in humans. There are many areas in the food industry where fungi are used. Many mushrooms are edible for humans and those species that are cultivated for sale worldwide.

Fungi re also widely used in the production of many foods and drinks, the main being cheese, beer, wine and bread. Fungi such as the Chinese caterpillar fungus, which live off insects, can be extremely useful for controlling insects that may ruin crops, in boycotting. The spores of the fungi are sprayed on the crop pests. Fungi have been used to control Colorado potato beetles, which can devastate potato crops. Spittle's, leaf hoppers and citrus rust mites are some of the other insect pests which have been controlled using fungi. This method is generally cheaper and less damaging to the environment than using chemical pesticides.
