The English were the last to colonize the Americas, They were looking for new sources of wealth and power - gold, silver, lumber, and many crops. They wanted to weaken Spain by establishing new military outposts. Essentially they were all looking to get rich and expand their empire. People fled to America to escape poverty, famine, and political turmoil. Colonizers liked the abundance of land and wanted to start a better life. Money and opportunities were huge factors for Englishmen to move to America. The Puritans left for America because of religious persecution.
