The earlier Adena burial sites contain practical objects but the late burial mounds contain much elaborate types of artifacts. These artifacts may be the evidence of the revolution of their culture. It was the evidence showing social hierarchy. Exotic goods in a big and elaborate burial mounds were displayed. These only show that the Adena culture had progressed. It had been apparent that the trade system had evolved into a more sophisticated way. Some artifacts were also discovered in Delmarva Peninsula, eastern side of Chesapeake region. Around 100 BC, Adena culture evolved to the Hopewell culture. This transition is because of diffusion or immigration to Illinois (Fiedel, 1992).
