Does color affect taste? Color brings life to the world. And taste brings enjoyment to all food. Imagine eating a piece of pizza that does not have any taste or color. There is a saying,“Eat with your eyes”. And it is true so for that reason color and taste are like Yin and Yang they both need each other. Taste is one of the five senses. Taste always goes along with emotion. Like a sour candy you make a puckered face and when you eat a piece of chocolate you savor it.

Also taste has has helped us decide throughout time if a food is sour or sweet rotten or ripe. The average person has five-thousand to ten-thousand taste buds in all. These taste buds help us taste the flavors in food.

There are five ways we taste flavor in food: salty, sweet, sour, bitterness, and savory. Our taste buds have evolved over time with the help of the five qualities of taste.

Ten-million years ago there taste buds helped find nutritious foods to go on with their daily activities. As time progressed we developed a taste for sweet and sour things. We like sweet things because sweet things mean sugar and sugar provides energy. We like sour things because it is a source for vitamin C which we need to survive. Color can be used as therapy which is called chromotherapy.

Green is the most basic color of therapy. Green is always used first and last in color therapy.

Yellow means wisdom and next orange then red. The next color is blue and violet. All of these color can help with different things like a flu and a cold or pains in your legs. Isaac Newton began a series of experiments that opened up a new world of advancement in physics, optics, chemistry, perception, and the overall study of color. Aristotle made the first theory that all colors came from black and white and compared them to the four elements water, air, earth, and fire. He did these things two, thousand of years before Isaac Newton replaced his idea with his own.

The book Optics documents his experiments with light passing through a prism. Isaac Newton identified the ROYGBIV colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. There is a part of the eye called the cone it is sensitive to wavelengths in the visible spectrum but it helps us see all the colors of the rainbow. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe made a theory that color was an experience by each person. It was widely accepted by all artists. Without this knowledge we could not understand the relationship between color and taste.
