In California, there have been some wildfires. To help prevent this, Pacific Gas & Electric imposed blackouts on thousands of people. Some were even without warning. Although this seemed like the right decision to them, it definitely backfired. They were removing a public utility from their community. California citizens were enraged, and it put lives in danger. Those with medical disabilities no longer had access to power. Fire Trucks or ambulances could not get out of buildings with electric doors.
Businesses that did not have backup generators couldn't operate during this time. Low income families had trouble restocking their fridges due to food spoiling from the power outages. It was chaos! Citizens were debating whether these power outages were really worth it, and if there were other things they could do instead to prevent wildfires. However, the alternative options are very expensive. Citizens of California will continue to debate until action is taken though!

The topic of this article was that they imposed blackouts on California citizens in order to prevent wildfires. This relates to Business Essentials through public utility. Public utility is an organization that supplies a service or product vital to all people. PG&E removed electricity, a public utility, from their citizens. My opinion on this article is mixed. I do not think it is fair that they removed electricity from thousands of people, however, they were doing it to prevent wildfires. If they didn't do it, many lives could have been lost due to wildfires.

About a month and a half ago, one of Big Sky Scientific's employees tried to drive a shipment of hemp through Idaho. However, he got caught and was originally charged with a felony. But then his attorneys said he would plead guilty for just a misdemeanor and no longer have to go to jail. The judge accepted this. Now the police no longer need the hemp for investigation. So where does it go? Well the company said they would drop their $1.3 million suit against the Idaho police if they agree to send the hemp back. In addition, they want to send future shipments through Idaho.

The events of this article relate to this class through interstate commerce. Interstate commerce is business transactions involving companies in more than one state. Big Sky Scientific said they will drop their suit against Idaho police if we send their hemp back and engage in interstate commerce with them in the future. Personally, I think that Idaho should do it because it will save them a lot of money.
