E Plurbus Unum

E Plurbus Unum is Latin for " From many, one" and is often translated as "one from many" or "one out of many". It is the unofficial motto of the U.S.A, although never confirmed trough law it remained as one of the traditional mottos of the US. it was used back when the US was founded and is the motto that can be found on the Great Seal of the US. Although the official motto of the US is now "In God We Trust" E Plurbus Unum still holds its relevance by being the de facto motto of the US as the motto on the great seal and many coins today.

This motto was chosen because of its relevance at the time, firstly the US was originally 13 colonies that decided to unite together to form a great country, later on, many new states were added, giving it the name of The United States, the motto E Plurbus Unum recognises each state that has now joined together to make the US.

Secondly, when this motto was taken on the US has just recently declared their independance as their own country, as one country not reliant on others. The motto acknowledges both the roots of the US and what they were made from (out of many) and also the fact that they have now transcended into one country. This is why it made such a great motto and is why it still holds great importance today, even if it isn't the "official" motto.

A posteriori

Veto

Veto literally traslates to "I Forbid" in latin, and is a term used for a power to suspend or stop any suggestions instantly, usually used by people of higher power such as the president to suspend laws being passed, the concept of having a "veto power" originated from the romans, they used it because the two highest seats in government where the consuls, who shared equal power, and to pass a law it required both of their aproval, in this situation if either one of the consuls decided they didn't want to enact the law they could "veto" it by not suporting it, and since passing a law required both consuls to agree on the law, this in effect stoped the law from being passed entirely, while only require one decision from a person high in power. This power is still used everyday today because it is an effective way of making sure things go out of hand. For example in roman times this was important because the government often was dominated by people of higher class who did not care about the plebians or lower class, the veto ensured that these high-class citizens were not able to pass whatever law they wanted, because any outrages law could be vetoed and stopped entirly. Today the veto is still used in a similar way to keep the government balaced and make sure no one can throw the whole systemto one side to get what they want, the veto works by preventing any damaging laws from being passed to maintain the status quo.

Bona fide

Fidelis ad Mortem (Faithful unto death)

Fidelis ad Mortem is Latin for "faithful til death" or " faithful unto death". It is the motto of the new york city police department and has been so since 1863, the motto was originally selected during a huge riot in which the NYPD defended many African-americans who were targeted by the rioters, in this calamity many officers stood loyal, or faithful to their roles even at the threat of death, hence the motto faithful unto death. This motto is very important because as police officers, they are often faced with dangerous and near death experiences in which they need to stay faithful to the police department and their oath to protect the city, the motto is also important because, as a police officer you have a lot of power and you have access to important and clasified information, and it is very important for a police officer to not become corrupt, and to serve for the good of the people not just them selves even when faced with death, those are the two reasons why Fidelis ad Mortem is the motto of the NYPD

Ad aspera per Astra

Ad Aspera Per Astra is latin, meaning "Through hardships to the stars" This is a very popular Latin motto and is used all over the world, from the UK to Equador, in the US alone it is the motto of 21 schools! The reason this is such a common motto, especially in schools, is because during school is when you are faced with a lot of hardships, in which you can either choose to work hard to get high grades or to take it easy and settle for a passing grade. Although this sentiment is true for most of life, high school is probably the first time it starts being important, this motto states that the only way to success (the stars) is through hardship and if you want a decent future you're going to have to work hard, this is especially true in high school because high school is when you are first tested to see how well you're doing and wether or not you get to go to a good university, and then get a good job later on, and if you get the idea of having to work hard to gain greatness at high school you will be ab;e to achive much better later on.
