"I heard a Fly buzz.---when I died" "Because I could not stop for Death" are both about death. The poem has the same author. The speaker in these poems is dead. "I heard a Fly buzz when I died" is a reflection about what happens when one dies. The speaker of this poem is dead and telling us about the act of dying. It seems the people in the room with the speaker are waiting on something spectacular to happen at the moment of her death.
Last onset-when the king to be witnessed. (7-8) this amazing event they waiting for to happen does not happen.
Instead of God coming, an annoying buzzing fly shows up to interrupt the stillness in the room. The speaker gives away her belongings by signing a will. She is waiting for the light, a sign of God. While she is waiting, that's when the fly appears. It stops the speaker from seeing the light of God, and then the windows failed, meaning she cannot see.
At this point, she realizes that the amazing event she expected is not going to happen. The tone of this poem is sad. "Because I could not stop for Death" also has a speaker who is dead that is telling the story. The speaker is traveling to immortality in a Carriage driven by Death. In this poem, the speaker treats Death as if it's a character, or a person. They are driving toward eternity. She is passing the school, and the field, and setting sun.
These are things of the world she is leaving.
They even pass the swelling of the ground which is a grave. The speaker says that the journey to eternity that she describes is centuries ago, at least two hundred years. And yet it doesn't feel so long ago. And she finally tells us she surmised that the Horses' Heads were going in the direction of eternity. The tone in this poem is sad, but it is also more comforting because of its tone. It is true that both poems are about Death, but one is about dying and the other one is about the journey to immortality. "I heard a Fly buzz" poem is more shocking because it is about the act of dying, and the other one is more comforting Death is more polite in the Carriage poem. The speaker is going from the familiar things in life to the unknown condition of being in another world. Both poems are depressing, but the one with the Fly is more depressing than the Carriage one. The poem "T heard I Fly buzz when I died" is more difficult to understand. Readers may think it's a hard poem due to the language used. The language is choice of words.
There are similarities in these two poems such as both of the poems involve death. These poems are very different and not very similar. Both poems have a different message about or beliefs about what is to come after death. "Because I Could Not Stop For Death" describes how the speaker is escorted by Death in her Carriage. It speaks in the voice of dying person. Both poems are unusual, Comparison and language about death. "I heard a Fly buzz. when I died", is completely focused on death, and "I couldn't not stop for Death", focused on Death as a spiritual journey. The speaker is dead and yet her voice is heard.
