As people get older, there are many characteristics that will happen in both men and women. These characteristics include the skin becoming thinner, more wrinkled and less elastic, the bone being less heavy and also are more likely to fracture, the joints will become stiffer and will also become more painful, the sense of the person's balance will slowly become more and more impaired, the taste and smell senses will start to deteriorate and the sensitivity of skins starts to decrease.

Menopause

Menopause will have an affect on a woman's period because it can cause the it to be unusually heavy or unusually light and can also affect a woman's period frequencies. It can be from two to three weeks or a woman may not have a period for months and months. The time will come when a woman's period stops completely. Some common symptoms that come with going through menopause are hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, sleeping difficulties, headaches and a reduced sex drive.

Diseases that can develop as a result of a vision impairment are cataract, glaucoma and detached retina. If an individual has a vision impairment then this can reduce independence, cause difficulty in reading, cause issues when it comes to the individual crossing the road, trouble driving and navigating and the inability to read labels (food labels, medication labels etc). A hearing impairment is the third leading chronic condition in adults who are 75 years or older. Diseases that can develop as a result of a hearing impairment are central auditory processing disorder, tinnitus and mennires disease. If an individual has an hearing impairment this can cause the inability to communicate effectively, social isolation, the inability to hear instructions or to hear a phone ring or a doorbell sound.
