They have a long axon; possess receptors and located in the spinal code, brain and form part of the central nervous system. They are connected to the interneurons by a synapse at one end (Khan Academy, 2020). The cell body contains the nucleus which carries genetic information and maintains the neuron’s structure. It is surrounded by a cell- membrane which protects the organelle like: Nucleus which contains genetic material like deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

Endoplasmic reticulum helps in transportation of proteins in the cell. The Golgi apparatus stores proteins and help in transportation of lipids in the cell. Lysosomes aid in protein synthesis. The mitochondria assist in energy production through cell respiration. Cytoplasm provides water to the cells and helps in movement of substances in and out of the cell.

Dendrites: They branch from the cell body and receive nerve impulses from other neurons through the synapse. Axon: This extends from the cell body and transmits signals from the dendron to muscles and glands. Myelin sheath: These are fatty layers that protect the axon and speed neural impulse transmission.
