Swimlane - A swim lane is used in processing flowcharts or flow diagrams ,it may be arranged either in vertical or horizontally.Swimlane diagram groups these activities into swim lanes that are either in vertical or horizontal columns that contain all of the activities that fit into the category represented by that swimlane.Swimlane can represent many categories of information example: actors which perform activities, the stage of the process I which it takes place. A workflow or process flow does not have to use swim lanes.

Swim lanes communicate additional information about who performs the activity or when it will take place its typically preferred best practice to include them.

Example of a swimlane :

Activity diagrams-  are graphical representations of workflows of stepwise activities and actions with support for choice, iteration and concurrency. In the UML (unified modelling language) activity diagrams are intended to model both organizational and computational processes as well as the data flows intersecting with the related activities.
