Capitalism Paper

Before reading this paper, let’s first play pretend. Let’s say that you are a 5-year old child. You don’t conceive nor discern anything other than dragons getting beaten or damsels in distress being rescued by handsome princes. You are a 5-year old child, seeking and wondering how this unknown world can be conquered. I, on the other hand, will try my best to explain to you in the simplest of ways. But of course, given that fact that you are young (in fact, a kid) you must know how the boundaries work. And first I tell you this thing (just to see what effect it can have on you). This thing called parasitism: the relation between two different kinds of organisms in which one receives benefits from the other by causing damage to it. And of course you stare at me in complete awe, wondering what on earth was I thinking in trying to make you understand this thing. In retrospect on the context of fairy tales and children scenarios, imagine a bully.

This bully gets free lunch every single day in school. He does this because he in fact, is a bully and people get scared of him because he has the “power.” He takes advantage of people that can do things for him and does not care about anything as long as he had this ground to conquer. According to Jason Read “People who dismiss the unemployed and dependent as ‘parasites’ fail to understand economics and parasitism.A successful parasite is one that is not recognized by its host, one that can make its host work for it without appearing as a burden. Such is the ruling class in a capitalist society.” But of course to make you understand further, what is capitalism? Think about Rumpelstiltskin. Think about how he gets everything he wants by giving people what they desperately need and wish for in exchange for something that would benefit him even more and burden those people in a much different level. Rumpelstiltksin may appear to have “capitalist ideas”.

Think of quick loan centers which will often appear in downtrodden communities . How is Rumpelstiltskin different to them? He’s not. Rumpelstiltskin is a perfect example of parasite, he benefits from the people without the people knowing that he is. You see there’s this film called Capitalism: A Love Story (let’s just pretend that you are a grown-up for a while) The filmmaker maintains a certain independence from the mass media where lies and misinformation dominate. He has shown backbone on a number of occasions. A number of elements in the film are to his credit. One, sympathy for a suffering population. The documentary, for instance, counters the claims of the media pundits and the Obama administration that the victims of predatory lending by the banks are in part to blame for the economic collapse.

Instead, Moore demonstrates how the wages, pensions and healthcare of the working class have been decimated in the last quarter century as a huge transfer of wealth to the financial elite has taken place. Many of these things were shown in the film. If you kid, were to ask me about how capitalism works, this film shows it all. Many people believe that Moore’s argument, repeated a number of times, that capitalism is “evil,” is false. Some people believe that is a socio-economic system that arose under certain objective conditions and was thoroughly revolutionary and progressive in its day. And I think I’m getting too deep. You see, these ruling class in a capitalist society or the so-called parasites can be out-ruled and overpowered. There’s a reason why children must read these fairytale stories. They don’t only make children believe that dragons exist. They make children believe that dragons can be beaten.
