Can Humans Still Reverse Global Warming?

Humanity will not survive global warming if we don't figure out a way to fix it quickly. If we really needed to stop global warming, countries would need to sign treaties and contracts to prevent carbon dioxide from being produced as fast as it is right now. Global warming is when the global average temperature rises due to carbon emission getting trapped in our atmosphere. Global warming is irreversible at this point because it would take over a decade for us to even tell if we fixed it.

Everyone would have to change their lifestyles and carbon dioxide is a very stable molecule, meaning it would be hard to break the carbon away from the oxygen.

Even if we used one of the many ways to fix global warming, it would take so long for us to tell if it worked that if it doesn't work, it would not be reversible. The heat-trapping gas lingers in the atmosphere for hundreds of years.

There is a time lag between what we do and when we feel it. Global temperature average should be kept below 1.5 degrees to avoid the most devastating effect of climate change. Greenhouse gases are expected to heat the planet's surface by 3 to 4 degrees by 2100, while 1.5 to 2 degrees are dangerous. This means that we need to fix it by 2100 to avoid devastating disasters.

If we find a way to fix global warming that works quick enough then we would most likely ruin the climate again in hundreds of years. This would happen because we would not change our carbon-emitting ways.

There are some measures humans can take to slow, halt or perhaps even reverse the warming trend. These measures range from changing our behaviors and making some sacrifices to plans that seem to belong in the realm of science fiction. If we make something that reverses global warming, we will not change our lifestyles and eventually the problem will build up again until our fix isn't enough to save us anymore. Home heating is the biggest challenge in reducing carbon emissions. Heatings take up about 21% of a household’s carbon footprint.

Carbon dioxide is a very stable molecule, it would be very hard to change carbon dioxide to help us instead of hurt us. If we decide we want to change carbon dioxide we would need to use energy to do so, therefore putting more carbon dioxide into our atmosphere. Even after we change carbon dioxide to oxygen, it would leave carbon monoxide in our atmosphere, meaning it would hurt us more than it is right now. We would need to remove 10 billion tons of carbon dioxide by 2050 to stay safe and not make the global temperatures rise. But capturing and storing the carbon dioxide would need new plants to soak up the CO2. Soaking up just 1 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions would require 300,000 such plants, meaning it would cost an astronomical amount at 2 billion dollars for each plant.

You might even think that if we create a ring of either reflective particles or spacecraft with reflective surfaces to block some light from the sun, we could save the earth in less than 100 years. Even though this would most likely work and reduce how much sun we absorb into the earth’s surface, it would cost anywhere from 500 billion dollars to 200 trillion. This means that it would double the debt of the entire world if we built it, at 188 trillion. And if you argue that we could make spacecraft’s to send into space instead of a ring, We would need tens of thousands of these spacecraft’s to make an impact and then we would also need to wait a few decades to see if they would even work.

So after everything, global warming will be fixed eventually, but it would take over a decade for us to even tell if it was fixed. Then every single person would have to change their lifestyles, and we would just go back to our carbon-emitting ways after trying to change carbon dioxide. 1.5 degrees higher than the average temperature is very dangerous. Heat-trapping gases linger in our atmosphere for over 100 years, if we don't remove 10 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in 11 years, we probably won't be able to reverse global warming. Nnnnnn bnnnnnn (Humanity will not survive this bump in our lives if we do not do anything about global warming.
