About Brave New World Book

Author Aldous Huxley published Brave New World. It was first published in 1932 and has since become a dystopian genre classic. Fordism and modern capitalist ideals gave rise to the present idealistic vision of a future devoid of social and economic evils, and the book is a response to that vision.

One of Huxley’s fundamental hypotheses is that human nature compels us to seek out pain and suffering. If there is no negative to counteract the positive, then individuals remain in a condition of limbo, unable to enjoy the entire range of emotions.

Book Summary

Central London Hatchery and Conditioning Center in A.F. (after Ford) is where the tale begins. Many residents of the World State think that Ford, the God-surrogate, is also Freud, the psychosexual psychotherapist.

One of the laboratory’s young students is guided by the head of hatcheries and conditioning around the facility. He shows them the Social Predestination chamber, where employees manufacture the social classes, and explains the scientific procedure of human beings being fertilized and custom-made.

They then go to the conditioning rooms, where they sleep-teach to strengthen the caste divides. Between the students and Resident Controller of Europe (Mustapha Mond), Lenina and her companion Fanny, and Bernard Marx and Henry Foster, there are a few small interludes to be found.

Bernard verifies with Lenina that she would want to go on a vacation to The Savage Reservation with him. Bernard’s self-doubt about his own inadequacy has only grown as she leaves. Henry and Lenina have supper, go on a soma-holiday, and witness a performance of synthetic music.

Sex follows later on. Bernard Marx’s Solidarity Service Day will be held on the following day. An “orgy-porgy” occurs when men and women ingest soma and sing together. On a romantic date, Bernard and Lenina get together.

He attempts to show her the beach and communicate some of his radical thoughts, but she tears. She persuades him to take soma, and they return to his room to engage in sex. As Lenina asks Bernard whether he had fun the following day, Bernard is hurt by how she appears to debase herself.

In the company of Lenina, he visits The Savage Reservation. Unhygienic circumstances make Lenina cringe. They run upon John, The Savage, who introduces himself. When he tells Bernard his tale, it comes out that the Director and Linda, a lady who vanished twenty-five years ago, had an illegitimate son.

John tells Bernard the account of his own life. It breaks his heart that he’s all alone and miserable. Bernard sees himself in John and encourages him to join them on their journey back to London. Bernard introduces Linda and John, the Director’s long-lost wife and their illegitimate son, with great pride.

The Director gets hit out of the office. At campus, Bernard is the big guy. The Savage entices Lenina’s curiosity, so she invites him out on a date. To her dismay, they do not engage in sexual activity. The Savage will not attend a meeting.

This shatters Bernard’s reputation. Lenina’s mind wanders to the Savage, and she’s not paying attention. She takes her clothes off when he tells her he loves her. He aggressively rejects her because he is disgusted by society’s sexual degradation.

In order to see his mother, the Savage has entered the Hospital for the Dying, where he is now. Hearing the low-caste employees and numerous youngsters make disparaging remarks about her, he erupts in anger and begins to beat them.

As soon as Linda realizes that he is still alive, she dies. He causes a disturbance by attempting to destroy a big amount of soma, and the police arrest him along with Bernard and Helmholtz. Mustapha Mond greets the three. The Savage and Mustapha Mond both discuss religion.

The Controller, Mustapha Mond, attempts to persuade him that pleasure is greater than art and personal freedom. As soon as Savage decides to leave society and live independently, the media follows and broadcasts his every action.

Helicopters circle over his residence as crowds of people gather to watch. Finally, the Savage hangs himself.

All of the individuals in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World are conditioned to perform their jobs and live their lives, in the same manner, every day. Caste System is the name given to the system in this story where humans are not born but are instead bred in bottles.
