Vis a vis morality, for us to lay the foundation of the understanding of the term, I deemed it necessary to search for its meaning and I found in Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary: Third Edition that morality is a personal or social set of standards for good or bad behavior and character or the quality of being right, honest, or acceptable. Taking from the definition itself, we can draw out a conclusion that morality is more of a personal encounter of what is morally good or right.
It might slightly capture the concept of moral relativism in which according to Steven Luker, is the belief that deals of right and wrong and good and bad are contextually dete3rmined by one’s local culture, as opposed to a theory of morality that holds that good and bad exist as absolute, metaphysical values existing cross naturally, values intrinsic to one’s humanness. But I also deemed it necessary to deal not with any philosopher for it might just create confusion of what my focus is on.
I, as ,a concerned citize3n of the Philippines would just like to impart one of the hottest issue in the Philippines specifically the unending debate on the Reproductive Health Bill or commonly known as “RH Bill” as it affects the practical view of the other countries and much worse of the Filipinos themselves. Before Former Chief Justice Renato Corona was put into the hot seat of the House of the Senate, one striking issue that really shook the judiciary branch of the Philippines was the passing of the Reproductive Health Bill Prior to the passed bill are 5 same bill with same goals are passed.
Only, the RH Bill passed by the Congressman Edcel Legman is found prominent with that of the 5 Bill which aims to guarantee universal access to methods of contraception, abortion, fertility control, sexual education, and maternal care. Sounds nice! Even a survey done by the ABS-CBN TV Patrol greatly shows that the great number of those who agree are much higher than that of who do not. Basically, the Pro-RH Bill has a strong conviction that the Philippines needs to de depopulated because, as they say, the population is growing year after year illustrating high infancy rate than the death rate every year.
They say that if this continues, the Philippines might not be able to carry the number of increasing population. If made into law, this would be the first Philippine Law that directly intends to control the population of the country through aggressive information discrimination on responsible family planning methods. The use of contraceptives or any of the various devices or drugs intended to prevent pregnancy which is also one of the main concerns of this bill such as intrauterine injections, vasectomy, and ligation would be made available at government health centers.
Childbirth, unwanted pregnancies, infertility, decreased exposure to abuse and sexually transmitted disease are just some of the benefits, as they say, of this bill that needs to be put into consideration by the judiciary which aims for the improvement of women’s overall health. Well, I think I have praised much the RH Bill. I already gave their point. Now, let me give my own point. They say that the Philippines needs to be depopulated, hearing this, I remember Chronos, the father of Zeus, who planned to depopulate the whole universe simply because he started to hate them.
Is this also not because the one who passed this law also has an unresolved personal issue? Adolf Hitler was one og the most legendary man written in history. He mercilessly killed thousands of Jews simply because he hates them. Could it be the same reason? Are we to imitate these two persons? Second thing, family planning method would be a great idea but is it not practice now and back then by families? Part of this method is the insertion of sex education to primary and secondary education.
Would this kind of education trigger more the curiosity of teenagers and in some part of their lives, they might try it in a very young age. It’s the personal obligation and responsibility of the parents to enlighten their children’s minds in this kind of issues and not of the teachers in schools. Third thing, the use of contraceptives, I would like to give emphasis in the condoms or a thin rubber covering that a man can wear on his genitals during sex to stop a woman from becoming pregnant.
There are some news coming inside and out that the government is ready to spend billions of money to distribute condoms. Well in my own personal opinion, the very first issue that the government must resolve is the issue on poverty. Year after year, unemployment rate goes higher and higher which cause a more gradual increase in families suffering from poverty. In different regions, Manila in particular, there are many squatters abiding. What does the local government doing? If we are to evaluate, there are much more important issues that
needs resolutions there are much more problems in the Philippines that needs aid than passing again a law which might create again another problem. If the national and local government would not be blind on the raging situations here in our country, we might be one of the prosperous countries here in the world. Reproductive Health Bill is not the answer to the Country’s problems. All we need is to eliminate corruption and other forms of personal interests if we truly are eager to make the country rich in its finest.
