Best Life Experience I Could Imagine

Categories: Life experience

The worst job experience that I’m going to share is not really about my job because I never got an opportunity to do job, but this is about the part of my life when I did an internship in Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, India.

Provide hands-on job to the patients seeking care by administering medications, Observing improvement or worsening of the disease, Monitoring the intake and output and maintaining the records, Building therapeutic relationships with the health care team members, Providing emotional support to the patient and his family members, doing follow up care and much more Being just an intern in the hospital, I faced a plethora of worst incidences which is egregious.

I always felt supernumerary in the hospital because you don’t count, you are just an extra in the hospital. A myriad of night shifts, terrible mentors, awful shifts, doing hard work and then you get no cash for the constant patient-oriented care you provide. At times, instead of getting an appraisal or just one better smile from the patients, you get to hear abusive words and weird expressions.

Much worst and hardest thing for a nurse is to see a patient die after you gave every possible care you could to let the patient be alive. Sometimes, you just don’t get respect from the other health care professionals and you tolerate it because you just don’t have any other options. The worst thing at the hospital was even for a small injury, they would recommend unnecessary tests to the client.

Difficulty in balancing home and work responsibilities we often got burned out when the hospital was short on staff and the supervisor never praised us for that, we were treated as nothing in the hospital which made us disinterested towards the work. Constant sheer anxiety of contracting a disease made our mind disturbed because we did not get proper donning. Disturbance in the natural circadian rhythm due to the night shifts leads to illnesses. We were often irritable and got annoyed because of the abusive nature of the patients. Role confusion At the end of the shift, we lost all our physical and mental ability and got too tired with the same busy routine, and didn’t get anything in return. All in all, I would like to conclude with a note that employers did not provide any solutions to reduce workplace stress even after holding routine staff meetings. They did not understand the problems that were faced by the nurses.
