The House of Quality is the first matrix in a fou r-phase QFD (Quality Function Deployment) process. It’s called the House of Quality because of the correlation matrix that is roof shaped and sits on top of the main body of the matrix. The correlation matrix evaluates how the defined product specification s optimize or sub -optimize each other.
Now we ve probably all held and have watched reviews of Cupertino’s latest and greatest. The 10th generation (or 11th or 12th depending on how you count) iPhone 8. But let’s get one thing out of the way first: the iPhone 8 is not a flagship phone of all phones; it’s Apple’s flagship phone. And that’s where Apple really wins.
The iPhone 8 isn’t a phone for everyone because there are truly greater phones out there like the OnePlus 5T, the Goo gle Pixel 2 XL, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and the list goes on. It doesn’t even nearly compare in terms of features or technology. And while the iPhone X isn’t a great phone in terms of specs ( or is it ), much can be said about it being a better experiential phone than anyof the competitors.
Apple’s understanding of its core customer base is light -years ahead of its competitors like Samsung,Huawei, or even Google.
Actually, understanding is a underestimation of the right word. A lot of companies understand what it takes to achieve the same thing, but they haven’t put in the long term investments necessary to execute. For example, building teams, factories, pipelines, to pr oduce theperfect product. They ve invested a lot of upfront effort to get to where they are and it’s a real moat that is hard to bridge.
We all know that while others compete with (and make fun of) Apple on technology like processor speed, memory capacity , screen resolution, and battery, Apple brushes those aside and continues on an upgrade path unique to itself and its customers. To understand Apple and its philosophy, one doesn’t need to venture much farther than its retail stores. From the immaculate la yout of store designs to its layout of product lineups and from its uniform dress code to exemplary customer service, one can really see and feel how much of a people -company Apple really is. The same can’t be said about Samsung, Huawei, or Google.
Synaptics Q3 201 8 acquisition of Renesas let them reap the rewards of the Renesas design win in the iPhone 8 and 8 plus, and Synaptics repeats this year with the design win for the iPhone 8s and 8s plus DDI. Loo king forward Synaptics may be able to leverage this design win to move Apple towards a touch screen controller and display driver integrated solution. Chipworks first catalogued this disruptive design in the ZTE Q7 S6 Lux.
According to Synaptics there are a number of key benefits to TDDI:
Best -in-Class Performance – synchronizes touch sensing and display driving to virtually eliminate display noise and offer bestin -class capacitive touch performance. Thinner Form Factors Integration of the touch sen sor into the display results in thinner form factors.Brighter Displays Fewer layers in the touchscreen results in a brighter display, or longer battery life for the same brightness. Lower System Cost Reducing the number of components, eliminatin g lamination steps and increasing manufacturing yield lowers overall system cost for OEMs.
The touch screen controller was comprised of a two chip solution in the iPhone 6, this socket was held by Broadcom and Texas Instruments. I n the iPhone 6S these two chips were combined into a single package with a third unknown chip. The next evolutionary step would be to move to an integrated touch and display driver solution.
iPhone, iPad, and iPod Benc hmark Chart. The data on this chart is gathered from user -submitted Geekbench 4 results from the Geekbench Browser . Geekbench 4 scores are calibrated against a baseline score of 4000 (which is the score of an Intel Core i7 – 6600U). Higher scores are better, with double the score indicating double the performance . If you’re curious how your iPhone, iPad, or iPod compares, you can download Geekbench 4 and run it on your iOS device to find out its score .
