Aspirin Production

In the past, many people were suffering from headaches because the treatments have not existed. In that time the world suffered from heart attacks which caused many deaths because there were no preventions for heart attacks. Therefore, scientists worked on discovering new compounds and substances to cure and treat health problems.

In 1870 professor Von Nicki showed that Salicin was converted into salicylic acid in the body. Then the salicylic acid was used for patients who were suffering from fever and their symptoms.

But, this compound caused irrational reactions on the lining in the mouth, gullet and stomach. In 1890 Felix Hoffmann rediscovered aspirin after the research by Charles in 1837. Aspirin was considered with good medicinal properties, which also had a reasonable taste and fewer chances of an irrational reaction to the body.

Aspirin is a habitual medicine that has many uses in relieving pain, it is also used to reduce the risks of heart attack and strokes. This medicine consists of many forms like pills, tablets that are dissolved in water powder, and gels.

Aspirin is also known as acetylsalicylic acid, which is imitative salicylic acid that is white, crystalline, weakly acid substance with 137°C of melting point.

There are several uses of aspirin, but only for short term relief, such as: headache, migraine, periods pain, etc. This medicine has a high dose of 300mg, which can relieve pain and reduce the high temperature of fever and it also decreases the chance of swallowing.

Aspirin consists of a low dose for long term treatments-consistently 75mg, this helps the blood to become less sticky and it also stops the development of blood clotting.

This drug can be used for people who had or have angina, heart attack, stroke, peripheral arterial disease, etc. this medicine is also prescribed for children but with an allowance of a certain age like children under 16 are not allowed to take, unless the doctor has supervised them to take this drug.

Aspirin can be taken by people only who have the consult of doctor or pharmacist, because some people are not comfortable/ safe on taking this drug, such as for people who have an allergic reaction, but also who have asthma it's not safe to take this dose; there many more constraints like people who had stomach ulcers in past, have serious liver or kidney problems, have uncontrolled high blood pressure and many more, but if the doctor advises them to take aspirin after knowing the problem than it should be taken. If not, you should take paracetamol or clopidogrel after the recommendation of the consultant.

Aspirin also has side effects such as indigestion, stomach aches but the most uncommon and rare side effects are like hives, tinnitus, breathing difficulties, asthma attacks, etc.

So, it is very important if someone is suffering from these side effects to immediately consult the doctor. Aspirin can also interact with medicines like ibuprofen, naproxen, a steroid medication, warfarin or heparin, etc. this interaction can alter their effects or develop the risk of side effects.

The equation for this reaction is:

C7H6O3 + C4H6O3 ? C9H8O4 + CH3COOH

Aspirin Production In The Industry And Raw Material

Aspirin is produced by the batch process, in very high and large quantities than in a lab. To make hard tablets of aspirin, we need cornstarch and water that are added to the active ingredients such as acetylsalicylic acid. These binds the aspirin crystals together, and it also bulk to the tablet. A portion of the lubricant is combined during mixing and the left lubricant is then added when the tablets are compressed. Lubricants keep the mixture from sticking to the machinery, this includes vegetable oils, stearic acid, etc. Some aspirin is chewable, which contains various type of ingredients which allow them to dissolve faster and they also taste good. So these types of aspirin contain a small amount of the active ingredients that mains are used for children.so the aspirin tablets can be soluble or insoluble depending on the ingredient they contain, not all chemical plants are able to to produce aspirin tablets in the same way, but the possible method for this is to:

Weight separately the following elements like cornstarch, the acetylsalicylic acid, and the lubricant in sterile canisters to make sure the correct proportion of each dosage.

The corn starch is then combined into cod purified water, then is heated and stirred until a paste is formed. Then the cornstarch and acetylic strategic acid is poured into the canister, by this they remove the air present from the product.

The mixture is then proportioned in small units of slugs.

The mixture is compressed into tablets for small batches and for large scale production

After all this, tablets are tested for their hardness and quality, and after all the tests, they can be packed or bottled.

Manufacturing Process Of Aspirin

Aspirin tablets are constructed in different shapes, their weights, shape, thickness, and hardness depends on the amount of dosage. Theses tablets have lines scored down the center of the outer surface. These tablets are manufactured in batches production only who have the same amount of dosage. After weighing basic and fundamental elements they are mixed and compressed into a mixture known as slugs. Afterward, these slugs are drained to eliminate air and lumps, and they have compressed again in diverse individual tablets, however the number of tablets depending on the size of the batch, the dosage amount, and the type of tablet machine used.

The procedure of dry-granulation is processed as:

  • Weighing
  • Mixing
  • Dry screening
  • Compression
  • Testing
  • Bottling and packaging
