Appeal to The US Government

Categories: Education

Dear Mr. President,

Civic and political participation is like developing everyone’s knowledge, skills, values, and motivation and making it into one. Many people try to earn their citizenship through the naturalization process so that they have the right to give individuals public decisions. Having a voice through voting, officials, and other political participation in government is very important because it is to protect our representative democracy. Responsible Citizenship holds the government accountable for its action. To protect the laws, people have to show interest.

Many citizens follow the law and pay taxes, but cannot devote their time to civic life which shows that people are less interested in the laws. Citizens must participate in both civic and political because this country is run by people and to maintain the government and society people must make important decisions. If people start ignoring their civic and political responsibilities and do not make any decisions, they are choosing to be ruled by their government and not holding onto their rights and freedom.

Best known for promoting public education, he became the president of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1852.

Mann was born on May 4, 1796, in Franklin, Massachusetts. Horace Mann's experiences growing up impacted his future approach to education because he was born into a poor farming family. His educational opportunities were very limited, unlike many other kids. Schooling during his time was irregularly managed. Mann was very dissatisfied with public education so he began his schooling. Horace Mann believed that citizens are both ignorant and selfies. He thinks that education should be provided in schools and be taught in society to students from varying backgrounds. For Horace Mann, education was social justice.

Horace Mann started a bi-weekly journal called, Common School Journal. In 1838, teachers were lectured on education. He improves the training of teachers by providing the sharing of information. His efforts, transformed the country's education into a public-education system. Mann is recognized today for his leadership in transforming public-education system schools across the U.S.; Honestly, I think Horace Mann deserves a national holiday because of him, education is public to all, and teacher is well-being educated.

The Department of Education still exists canand and is helping schools all over the nation. Without his determination and motivation, today's education wouldn’t be free and public to everyone. One of the things Horace Mann pushed for was for education to be valued more. So today in the present, schools are about 10 months a year. Students are in school seven days a week and go for nearly 8 hours a day. People living today would have to go to college to get a degree, it is the law that a person has to have a degree in the subject to be able to teach others.

Education is still flourishing today. Even to this day, the United States and all over the world are still improving school systems and working efficiently to make changes to education itself. Horace Mann would be very proud to see how far the U.S. education system has come.

As an AsianAmericanbenefitcan American, I a benefit from Horace Mann’s work and efforts. I was able to attend school and school is unlimited to me and everyone around me, I am able to learn something new in school every day. I am eligible to go to college and get a degree and become something amazing. I’m very thankful for Horace Mann for his upbringing and growth in education. I respectfully ask you, Mr. President to consider a special national holiday for Horace Mann called Public Education Day where teachers and students come together and share their knowledgloveknowledg.
