Anti-Bullying Programs Should Always Be Promoted at Schools

Categories: Anti Bullying

Anti-bullying programs If over 2/3 of students believe that schools respond poorly to bullying, and that a high percentage of students believe that adult help is infrequent and ineffective, what exactly are we doing to help stop bullying? Schools need more anti-bullying programs. Not just any “anonymous” meet during lunch, or the same old VHS played every year. Bullying is only going to stop by constant teaching- from the beginning.

Bullying begins at very young ages. They see older kids and their siblings and mimic them.

It becomes a cycle from one generation to the next. To kill a plant, you must start at its roots. From the very first day of school, and even before, children need to understand how wrong it is to hurt others. One out of seven kids in grades K-12 are bullied or a bully! They need to learn to report everything, and not be afraid to “tattle.” Tattling is a concept made up by kids themselves in order not to get in trouble for something they know is wrong.

If a child were to witness someone being bullied, something they learned is wrong and shouldn’t continue, they need not be afraid to tell an adult. Some schools have give rewards for “tattling.” If they see or hear something going on, they will tell their teacher or an adult for a prize of some sort. I think this is a great idea.

Over time, bullying is only getting worse. And now with technology, cyber bullying is taking over also.

Not only is there bullying at school, but when kids go home. The torture continues not only from the same students, but people all over the world. And with little or no moderation, it’s even meone is getting cyberbullied. In fact, about 58% of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online. More than 4 out 10 say it has happened more than once. If that’s not enough, bullying victims are two to nine more times likely to commit suicide.
The fact that bullying is driving anyone to commit suicide should show people just how bad it can be. Yet not much is being done to help. We need a new method of preventing bullying! Something to truly knock some sense into people! Government campaigns are helping a bit, but isn’t enough! While other programs, like Rachel’s Challenge are more effective, it doesn’t stop it completely. Rachel’s Challenge is an organization that works to stop bullying. It is inspired by Rachel Joy Scott, who was killed in the Columbine shooting. Using her tragic and touching story, they try to show kids what bullying can lead to, and why it needs to stop. In one survey, 78% of students indicated they would definitely intervene in a bullying incident in their school after seeing Rachel’s Challenge. Many adults and teachers choose to ignore bullying, saying how it’s just a “phase” or that they’re just being kids. Except that is rarely the case!

And while others say money should be spent on more important things at school, that money is just going to waste if kids can’t properly learn, scared about what might happen to them next. Bullying is a very large problem today, yet attempts to stop it are not very effective. Schools need to teach kids from a young age that it is wrong, and reward them when bullying is stopped. Sometimes we even need to shock kids into not bullying. Bullying isn’t going to stop by just looking from the sidelines.
