Analysis "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"

Categories: Huck Finn

Huck grows up as a free spirit without a real family (not seeing much of his drunken father) had learned to use various circumstances to his own advantages but at the same understanding the differences between right and wrong. For example, when Huck heard Jim's predicament of running away from Ms. Watson.

She wanted to sell him for the eight hundred dollars to a new buyer. While in current society, it might appear to be a simple answer not to turn Jim in ( the slavery is wrong), however at that time by the law, the expected moral code, to do is to turn in a runaway slave.

Of course, Huck knew that, and additionally he understood that every white person must comply with that law. In the case of not obeying this law, we refer to one of Kantian Ethics, this would be defying a universal law "You must obey the law".

"I said I wouldn't, and I'll stick to it.

Honest Injun, I will. People would call me a low-down Abolitionist and despise me for keeping mum but that don't make no difference. I ain't a-going to tell, and I ain't a-going back there, anyways."(Twain, 1994. p. 45)

Being old enough, Huck understood that slavery is uncivilized and no human being should be treated that way. And in this case, morality thwarts the universal law "You must obey the law".

The second Formulation in Kantian Ethics of the 'End Itself' helps to understand why: "Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never simply as a means, but always at the same time as an end.

" (Csus.edu, n. d.). We should never utilize or abuse anybody for whatever reason.

One of the most important (in my views) Categorical Imperative example right now is to minimize the use of plastic. India has been promoting to reduce the plastics bags use for the past decade and Pondicherry is one of the cities that recently started taking serious actions for the cause.

Every state in India is largely populated (size of a small country) and the number of people using plastic is millions. The majority of citizens' mentality is fifty years back but the governments encourage and sometimes force (the shop owners) to move on to paper or fabric bags.

We all know the harmful side effects of plastic: the production process is a primary cause of carbon release contributing to global-warming and recycling it not only requires great amounts of energy but it also uses lots of water. The plastic waste harming wildlife especially water birds and marine animals. So choosing paper over plastic is good for our health as well as good for the environment.
