An architect in construction plays an important role and responsible for visual appearance of the buildings and structures before final structural design and it should satisfy the client, building laws and regulation of the state. In addition, they are also responsible for the safety management and overseeing of projects in every stage of the construction software from day one until the opening when the building is completed. Before designing or planning a building, there are few principles every architect should follow them which are orientation, circulation, privacy, grouping of area and energy efficiency.
The most important element is that architect or the facilities manger must be able to take care of this much of responsibility and have the qualifications and skills to manage the project. Firstly, Orientation is related to directions and sunlight which refers to the way a building is situated on a site and the positioning of windows, rooflines, and other features. In this design the orientation must be taken for sure, the long walls should face north, south and short walls should face east, west.
This will help the building to manage the heat and sunlight through the year four seasons, winter, summer, spring, autumn. However, this technic will help clients to save power and money because they will be benefiting from the sunlight through daylight. As it is showed in the design long walls facing north and south so the sun will be focused on the side of area. In the east and west direction face the cafeteria and food store which it should be in a cool place so it doesn’t get damaged because it’s a sensitive place also its one of the places that it should have more safety. (5/12/2018). Secondly, circulation refers to the way of people movement through interact with the building. There are two different types of circulations which are vertical and horizontal, the movement of these circulation might be fast or slow, manual or mechanical, crowed or induvial. The pathways might be leisurely and winding, or tight and direct. As per Muscat municipality each direction in staircase should be between (28-30) and the rise should be between (15-18). In the shown design staircase, has been provided with the direction of upward and downwards. Also, provided a lobby near the reception, consulting room to make the movement much comfortable and easy for the people inside the clinic. In addition, the pathways are linked to several rooms. Thirdly, grouping of area is the ways are the rooms arranged in a way which is proper and comfortable of the building users. As it is shown the rooms with the same use and same function are together for example, the four-consulting room are in the same area which will be more comfortable and understandable for the visitors. Also, the toilets are in separate area in the first floor.Fourthly, the privacy which is one of the most important principle in planning any type of building either if it was residential or trade or etc… because its related by the people privacy and how they will feel about being in a clinic. It Is divided into two, internal privacy, which means inside the building and extremal privacy which is outside the building. it has provided two waiting halls in the plan one is for women and the second is for men so there will be enough private space for both. Furthermore, there are two praying rooms in the first floor to avoid disturb and noises from the ground floor. In addition, there are two separated waiting halls for women and men so they can have their privacy and comfortable. Also, as it showed that the ground floor is for the work where will be noise and the second floor is for relaxing and have a rest etc. Additionally, provided short pathways between the rooms. Example of external privacy, outside parking are only for the clinic clients also they are divided into 3 parts, pregnant women, disabled people and normal people. Fifthly, energy efficiency is saving and reducing the energy that we use from heating and cooling. It is very important to design any building with different strategies to maximize the usage pf the building power, however, there are various methods such as, recycling the waste water by linking the pipe outside and irrigate the agriculture to get befit. Also, using the solar for heating the water. In addition, solar lights are very good option for building energy efficiency, with the development of technology nowadays many buildings use the solar lights that works by the sun heat so the silicon cell collect the energy from the sun heat and get converted to be used at night to all the parts of the building. Sewage pipe must be added to get rid of the waste and gas pipe. Moreover, one if the rules Muscat municipality requested to follow that is related to this principle, article 77: the sewage disposal pipe shall be 10 cm minimum, waste water from dishwashing sink in the kitchen is directly disposed into the vertical waste water pipe then into a gully trap and then inspection chamber. Also, a vent pipe, diameter 7.5 cm minimum, shall be used for ventilation in toilets. The pipe shall be of a reasonable height. (6/12/2018). In conclusion, any facility manger should take care of these five important building principals which are orientation, privacy, circulation, energy efficiency and grouping of area because without them the building won’t please the clients and it won’t be qualified.
