A Review of Racial Discrimination in the Story Crossing a Boundary

Racial discrimination is one of the most contentious issues in our society. Individuals focus on different racial groups of people and discuss their justice, discrimination and bias by attending groups, meetings, etc. The United States of America is one of the most racism-free countries in the world. American believe that all people in the world should have the same possibilities, the same respect and equality. However, there are still certain groups of people who do not show others respect, especially immigrants.

There are more than a million people who come to the United States to fulfill their dreams.

Yet, because of the attitudes of certain people, they are treated unfairly. The story "Crossing the Border" is about prejudice and discrimination and is also the closest to my experience. All people in this world are human beings and they should be treated with equality In the story Crossing a Boundary, the main character has been suspected on an unfamiliar street because he is an African American.

This made him felt really bad because racial barriers are subtly maintained even when nobody seems to be taking an openly racist position. He felt he is an outsider. Obviously, certain groups of people had set a line between others and themselves.

They believe the entire group of immigrants and different color of people is much lower than themselves in all the time. They are totally against it. I believed this story is named Crossing a Boundary because the author wants to get other peoples attention by writing this story.

Racial discrimination might happen anywhere, to all the people, and at anytime. Nobody actually cares about it because people had already gotten used to it. However, this is what we called racism. I am an immigrant. I came to the United States five years ago to obtain a better education. I learned many different cultures and aspects through out these five years. Although I can now speak and write English fluently, I still believed I am different from the others. Despite the language, my pronunciation, the way I look, the way I dress is always different from the others. I remember there was one time that the others prejudged me.

In my English class in high school, our teacher had assigned a presentation and asked us to work as a group. There were five people in our group and they were all Americans. After we split into the groups, we started discussing what we were going to do for our presentation and we assigned each of us to do part of the work. However, after every one found out their job, I noticed that I was the only one that had not been called. I went to our group leader and asked him about my responsibility, and he said something that I will never forget. ! He told me, You really dont have to do anything, just be there when we do the presentation Dont worry, we will do the work! Suddenly, I was shocked and realized I was being looked down. They despised not only my ability to do this job, but also my self-esteem. Even though I came from another country, they should not have judged my ability to work by my physical appearance.

I cried all night after I get home that day, and told myself that I must study hard to improve my English. I will never let any one to look down on me, again. All human beings are equal and deserve the same rights as everybody else. People should not and cannot set or build a wall to separate others from themselves. People should not judge others by their physical appearances and race. The experience I had was painful. That was the memory that I will never forget. It is not right for certain people to judge or lower the others identity. There are really no differences between the American and others color of people. All people does put a lot of effort on their work, and we should not despise others because their physical and race are different than us.
