A Christmas Carol' is an important classic of Christmas' topic novel and wrote by Charles Dickens. In 1940s, followed by publishing the book, Charles Dickens leads a dominant influence in the position of Christmas and generated a positive social trend in different aspects, including moral responsibility of employees, festival atmosphere in Christmas, generosity in poor people In the story, a harsh miser Ebenezer Scooter is the main character who doesn't care about anything, except money.

As the beginning depicts, A frosty rime was on his head He carried his own low temperature always about with him; he iced his office in the dog-days; and didn't thaw it one degree at Christmas.

' (Dickens 8) He treated people awfully and choice to live lonely for a long term. Fortunately, after three spirits taking him to review and evaluate his whole life. Scooter gained a redemption and insight, then changed to live in a kinder, happier, also more meaningful way until the end of his life.

It can be seen, three of the spirits who visited Scooter respectively in his dream played the vital roles throughout the story. Charles Dickens did a great job of utilizing them to symbolize memory, generosity, and death in the metaphor way.

To begin with, the first childlike ghost of Christmas Past represented memory for showing him different stages of his past Christmas memories. It depicted the transition of Scooter from a young initial personality with good memory to a lonely mister who abandoned everything vivid and warm. In contrast, we can see from his memory that young Scooter examined many good things despite many frustrations: an expectation and imaginary of love; warm and tender by sincerely accompaniment from sister; understandable and joyful experience from his boss; and also a relationship with his beloved beautiful woman Bella.

His former life was not as dull as present. Even young Scooter stay alone in Christmas, he had not lost the desire for love by imagining friends in his mind to accompany him.

In another scene, when Scooter little sister Fan took him home for Christmas, she 'I was not afraid to ask him once more if you might come home; and he said Yes, you should; and sent me in a coach to bring you.' (Dickens 34) It explained what caused Scooter's tragic and lonely Christmas situation, through a harsh and cold treatment of the family by forbidding him home. 'We're to be together all the Christmas long, and have the merriest time in all the world.' (Dickens 34) Fortunately for Scooter, he had a sister who cherish him a lot with sincerely accompaniment and left warm and precious memory of Christmas to him. That's why Scooter frozen emotional was broke down overwhelmingly straight away, after experiencing series of vivid memories he lost for a long time. 'Why, it's old Fezziwig! Bless his heart; it's Fezziwig alive again!' (Dickens 35)

Scooter emotional response symbolized Mr. Fezziwig occupied an important place in his heart 'Yo ho, my boys!' said Fezziwig. 'No more work to-night. Christmas Eve, Dick. Christmas, Ebenezer! Let's have the shutters up, ' cried old Fezziwig, with a sharp clap of his hands' (Dickens 36) Mr. Fezziwig made up the strong festival atmosphere by holding a huge Christmas party and enthusiastically inviting all his worker attended. Unlike Scooter, he was apparently popular and who will never be alienated from anyone. Due to an amount of understanding and kindness he demonstrated to his workers. For Scooter, this joyful apprenticeship memory was filled with significance and inspired him to treat his apprentice Bob Cratchit in a kinder way than before.
