When you think about culture, what do you think of? Beliefs? Values? Well I think of what makes a person who they are, what defines them as a person. There are so many different cultures in the world, some are similar and others are completely different in every way, the list is never ending, but why? Why are there so many cultures that exist? Culture is who you are as a person and is based on similar beliefs between you and others. When you actually think about it it’s a way that connects you to everyone in the whole world on a personal level. So why are there so many cultures if we are all the same? When you look at all the people that you see every day and actually think about all of the differences that you have with these people it makes you wonder how it all happened. How did we go from being the same people and thinking about everything the same way to being completely different and having our own thoughts and opinions? People try to be as different from everybody else as they can, It’s like a never ending race to be the most different, but in the end we all end up as the same people, so how is it even possible that there are so many differences yet we are the same? I interviewed teachers, and found that most of them said about the same thing when answering the questions that I had. It was like they all teamed up before I interviewed them and went over what their answers to my questions were going to be. This shows how similar we all really are. When I was reading the interviews I was disagreeing with all of the answers that they teachers had written.
They were saying things like how they don’t think that they are hypocrites, and how they think they are above students in every way. I think that teachers should be above students educationally but not socially. When I saw that all of the teachers were saying the same thing during all of the interviews I thought that they weren’t really being honest with me, and possibly were saying these things because they wanted to set a good example for me, and they knew that I would most likely be sharing the information they gave me with other people and/or possibly writing an exploratory essay about why there are so many different cultures. 😉 So they wanted to make sure that they didn’t say anything to risky. Or something that they could get in trouble for. I remember when I was approached by a person of the opposite sex, and he was asking if I was interested in his man friend. (HELL YEA I WAS) So I told him something that his friend would want to hear (He was cute, real cute). I said what he wanted to hear because I knew that the guy who approached me was going to tell his friend what I said, and possibly others. In my book “The joy luck club” the mothers want their children to marry other people of the same religion, because they have the same life style and way of doing things. They don’t want their children to be living a different way than them, because the mothers think that any other culture or religion is wrong. This made me wonder if this is a big reason as to why there are so many different cultures.
People may just be creating new cultures to be accepted into others. If one person wants be accepted into someone else’s culture they may take their own culture and change it so that they can be accepted in both cultures. One time I had a friend who was Caucasian but wanted to be accepted into the African American community, so he decided that he would act like he was of the African American decent so that he would be liked by said African Americans. I think that that is a really stupid thing to do, I believe that you are created the way you are for a reason and you shouldn’t have to change yourself for someone else. When I think about how many different cultures there are I realize that this great nation is full of so many different people that no one knows about because they are not interested in going to find them. Because people are too lazy to go out and find the other cultures that exist in this world, they get bored of the culture or subculture that they are in, so they make up a new one to fulfill their culture void. After a while there are so many different cultures that cultures lose their meaning and the same thing keeps happening over and over and over and over and over again, thus creating more and more cultures. I really hope that Mrs. Goldson has stopped reading this by now and has given me the A that I rightly deserve. To be connected to a culture you have to have similarities with the people in that culture, for example I am part of many cultures such as the red head culture, White as hell culture, the Gateway High School culture and many other cultures. . But for now I’m going to talk about culture and all sorts of randomness that comes along with it. Did you know that some people believe that only people who are the same can be in the same culture, so only black people can be in a culture together and only white people can be in a culture together and so on and so forth. Cultures are what make the world we live in so diverse and interesting. Although there isn’t a full and correct answer as to why there are so many different cultures we should just
come to the conclusion that it simply shouldn’t be argued with.
