The knowledge of vegetarianism is a weapon that helps fight against obesity. By spreading the information and concepts of vegetarianism, we would be able to inform the world the benefits that come with vegetarianism. Preview: Why is vegetarianism important?
Relevant: To prevent obesity and to save animals from dying and becoming our meals for dinner. Thesis statement: To understand Vegetarianism we would have to know what vegetarianism is, the benefits of being a vegetarian and the different types of vegetarians. Specific purpose: To inform my audience about the benefits and different types of vegetarianism. Body:
I.What is Vegetarianism? A. The principle or practice of excluding all meat and fish, and sometimes, in the case of vegans, all animal products (such as eggs, cheese, etc) from one’s diet. B. Vegetarianism is abstaining from the consumption of meat, poultry, seafood and the flesh of any other animal. C. Vegetable and tofu take and substitute the meat consumption. Transitional phrase. Now that we have talked about the definition of vegetarianism lets move on to the benefits.
II. The Health Benefits of being a Vegetarian
A. Vegetarians’ diets are lower in saturated fats, cholesterol.
B. Vegetarians substantially reduced risk for obesity, Lower cholesterol, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and some forms of cancer such as the lungs and colon.
C. There is no worry of consuming meat and risk of becoming sick from the toxic waste some animals eat. For example, a pig. Being a vegetarian is healthy and pure, and fresh. D. There is no preservatives and is all-natural
E. American Dieticians’ Association also asserted in its 2009 Position Paper on Vegetarian Diets that “Appropriately planned vegetarian diets have been shown to be healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases,” (1277). F. A recent study by Adventist scientists at Loma Linda University concluded that people who eat a vegetarian-type diet live an average of 2.4 years longer that people who eat a more carnivorous diet (Quinn 36). III. The different types of vegetarianism.
A. Vegan – consumes veggies, fruits, and grains only B. Ovo-Vegetarian –consumes veggies, fruits, grains and eggs C. Lacto-Vegetarian- consumes veggies, fruits, grains, dairy D. Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian – consumes veggies, fruits, grains, eggs, dairy E. Pesco – Vegetarian – consumes avoids red meats and fowl but consumes fish and seafood. F. Occasional Vegetarian – consumes fruits, veggies, grains, eggs, dairy, fish and seafood. Transitional phrase: Now that I have discussed the different types of vegetarians with my fellow classmates, lets now review all the key concepts I have discussed.
