(Minh Hang) Good morning teacher, good morning everyone. First of all, let me thank you all for coming here today. For those who may not know me, my name is Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hang and I am the leader of my group, whose name is Fireflies. And here is Bui Thi Phuong Dzung, with a sweet voice, singing all day like a bird. Then is Dam Thi Van Trang, you know, she can spend hours standing in front of the mirror staring at herself and selfie as her passion is…herself. Last is me. I am such a ‘sleepaholic’ girl that sometimes I feel as if I almost hibernate like a bear in the winter. Before moving deeper into our talk, we would warmly invite all of you to join a small quiz with us. It is OK? We will show you the pictures of famous destinations, national flag or currency and your duty is to guess which country it is. Are you ready? (Warm-up game)
Are you feel more excited? Yeah, so today, we would like to talk about travelling abroad and the tittle of our presentation is ‘Flying yourself by travelling abroad’. Now I am going to give you the structure of our presentation so that you can have a clear idea of what we will talk about. We divide our presentation into 4 main parts: the plus and minus points of travelling abroad, how to prepare for an oversea journey and the statistics on international travel. During the presentation, if there is something you are not already clear, please wait until the Q&A session at the end of our talk. So, let’s get the ball rolling with Dzung about the advantages of travelling abroad.
(Phuong Dung) Thank Hang for introducing me.
As can be referred from our presentation’s title, traveling abroad has a lot of plus points. In the first part of this talk, I will point out what benefits traveling abroad can bring to us on 2 main grounds: education and recreation. To begin with, an overseas trip is very educationally advantageous. Firstly, foreign traveling broadens our knowledge. When visiting a different country, we will get more information about its: human, geographic, climatic features. Take Korea as an example, it is located on a peninsula that stretches 1000km from north to south of Asia. Korea like Vietnam has also 4 distinct seasons. Every season has its uniqueness. Summer is hot, humid and the hottest in August.
Winter is cold, dry, heavy snow and the coldest in January.
In early spring, peninsula has much yellow sand from china. But in mid-April, this country enjoys a mild climate with mountains, flowers, streams…in bright colours. It is time for people to prepare the sowing Beside that, it helps us discover many differences in terms of culture, perspective, ways of thinking, history, customer and lifestyles. As a result, we can see many positive and negative aspects in Vietnam that should be examined. We can become more tolerant and open- minded, breaking down barriers between countries and appreciate our own country or other cultures. For example, the garbage is thrown right places, public consciousness in Vietnam need be considered carefully Secondly, traveling abroad is a good chance for us to enhance necessary skills. In addition, that is good opportunity for us to learn about more than language training, especially English-speaking ability and develop independence, gain self-confidence. Furthermore, we have more living skill, communication skill.
We have to manage some unexpectedly different situation. Another benefit of traveling abroad is that it not only helps us widen our horizons but also helps us feel more relaxing. Travelling abroad will give us the opportunity to meet new friends. Whether with a friend, or with family, traveling is certainly the best way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. It helps you get plenty of time to relax and enjoy yourself to the fullest. When you return from vacation, you will have high energy levels to continue an active day. It is an effective stress remover for those with demanding jobs. To sum up, foreign travel will give you many different benefits. However, it has not only advantages but also disadvantages. Next Ngan will point out its problems.
(Thuy Ngan) Along with many advantages that travelling abroad brings to us in part 1, there are some disadvantages that we should take into consideration before setting off. As a start, on social level, difference in culture and language can lead to culture shocks, language barrier, misunderstanding and increased tension between different communities. And travellers can encounter racial discrimination and negative reactions such as unfriendliness, hostility. For example, the occidental often greet another person with an embrace and kiss in order to express esteem but the oriental only shake hand because embrace only for lovers so this action may lead to misunderstanding. Moreover, powerful experience in foreign countries can alter the traveller’s way of thinking and they lose their cultural identity. Take an Asian traveller to America for a month as an instance, when he meet senior people, he may not greet them if they don’t greet before because he think everybody is equal.
On personal level, first, costs of travelling and staying can be extremely expensive such as travelling by plane, so naturally not everyone can afford. Second, before the journey, we need to get many necessary documents such as passports, visas, international driving permits, but it takes a lot of time and notice to prepare them. Last but not least, health issue is also of great concern before a trip. Fatigue and disease may occur while travelling. A long trip with a sudden change of environment such as weather and time zone make us feel tired and sick. And we can get infected disease if we are traveling to countries which have an epidemic disease. To sum up, foreign travel has some downsides, but we still can minimize them and Trang will give us some advice now.
(Van Trang) We will continue our talk by giving you some preparation tips to avoid encountering ourselves in such problems that have been listed by Ngan in part 2 First of all, we should take necessary documents into consideration. Make sure your passport is valid until the end of your trip. Making a photocopy of all travel documents, certificate of birth, license, identity card…. Secondly, you should make a plan with your family for call times Memorize the address and telephone number of your residence abroad. Third, you should know how to pack your luggage smart
You should research the weather, terrain and airline weight regulations before you travel You should take things you like to wears and plan on wearing several times Find out electrical standard by doing an Internet search .You may need a plug adapter and a converter Fourth, you should be financially prepared

That is all the necessary tips to have a nice trip. Next Phuong Nga will deliver statistic on international travel.
(Phuong Nga) Now I will continue our presentation by giving the situation of International tourism. Let’s look at the map: international tourist arrivals grew by 5% worldwide in 2013, reaching a record 1087 million arrivals, after topping the 1 billion mark in 2012.
And here, Asia and the Pacific recorded the strongest growth with a 6% increase in arrivals, followed by Europe and Africa (both + 5%). In the Americas, international arrivals grew by 3%, while the Middle East they were flat. For the full year 2014, UNWTO forecast international tourist arrivals will increase by 4% to 4.5%. By region, prospects for 2014 are strongest for Asia and the Pacific (5% to 6%), followed by Africa (4% to 6%). Next, I will move to the top 10 rankings by international arrivals in 2013:
Only two changes taking place in the top 10 rankings is that Spain (with 61 million) regained the third position it had lost in 2010 to China (with 56 million) and China moved to 4th and Thailand (26.5 million) entered the top 10 arrivals ranking at number 10, climbing an amazing five positions. France continues to top the ranking of international tourist arrivals with 83 million visitors in 2012. The United States ranks 2nd with 70 million. Italy has consolidated its 5th place (48 million). Germany and the United Kingdom remain respectively 7th and 8th. The Russian Federation completes the top 10 ranking in 9th place. Now I will come to the end of our presentation. In summary, we have talked about 4 main aspects of Travelling abroad: it pros and cons, preparation for an oversea trip and current situation of Travelling around the world. All things considered, the benefits of Travelling abroad far outweigh its drawbacks if we are well-prepared. Thank you for your attention.
