The fall of Man Essay

The Fall of Man in the Christian context refers to the transition of the first humans, Adam and Eve, from a state of innocent and complete obedience to God to sinful disobedience to Him. Some Christians believe that the Fall of Man corrupted the natural world on how God originally created the human nature. The fall of Adam and Eve into the temptation of evil causes people to be born into original sin. People became separated to God and into His grace. But the loving and merciful nature of God made Him send Jesus Christ, His only begotten son, who will manifest Himself as man.

Jesus is the anointed one who will act as the Savior of the human kind. He will die as a ransom so that man will be one with God again and so man will acquire the opportunity to be with God in His Kingdom. The story of the fall of man, if one perceives it as true and not merely a myth, basically define the very nature of human beings who have the tendency to be good and evil at times. Men’s innate capability to be good rooted from the very fact that we are created in His image and likeness. Men’s tendency to be evil on the other hand is because the fruit of knowledge gave men desires to pursue worldly standards that is originally of Satan.

Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Bible greatly affects us. greatly affect This will be discussed as the paper goes on. In the beginning of the Genesis, God created humans “male and female” named Adam and Eve in His image and likeness. He fashioned them from the dust and blowing life into His nostrils. God plants a garden, the Garden of Eden, and sets the man there “to watch over it” permitting him to eat all the trees and fruits except the “Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil”, “for on the day you eat of it you shall surely die”.

Originally man was not capable of determining what was good and was evil. Bu the Tree of Knowledge which was the only source of temptation defines good and evil. Satan who was secretly watching and who was aware of this agreement between God and men used serpent to persuade Eve to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree of knowledge. Eve gave the fruit to Adam and ate also. As a result, their innocence of their nakedness altered to shame, they made coverings of the fig tree and hide from the sight of God. God calling them in the Garden of Eden but He received no answer.

He eventually perceived that men have broken His strict command. He cursed men giving them hard labor and pain in childbearing, and banishes them from the Garden of Eden. I will greatly increase your pangs in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you. – Genesis 3:16 Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree about which I commanded you, You shall not eat of it”, cursed is the ground because of you;

in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; you are dust, and to dust you shall return. – Genesis 3:17-19 From that time on, life became not easy for men. They are now asked to use their knowledge and awareness to live their lives according to their freewill, of either exercising good or evil. It can be concluded that Adam and Eve’s disobedience cause men to know, to choose.

Those choices which are sometimes wrong give men pain and suffering. But God is still good because the knowledge itself gave us the capability to reason and to think and to determine what is right and what is wrong. God as the Creator has the right to establish laws and order over the things He created. And man as the care taker has the responsibility to follow and obey. God’s law of not allowing Adam and Eve to eat the tree of knowledge was somehow spiritual God who wanted the very best for man prohibited him and her to do that which was destructive to him.

I somehow perceive that the reason why God put the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden is to test the sense of responsibility and commitment of Adam and Eve who will strictly follow the rules of their Creator. God wanted them to trust Him. Note that God created man Holy, created in His image, able to exercise his or her will yet separate from sin. Adam and Eve know what was good but did not know the evil. God never intended both to know the evil because He wanted men’s posterity to be good forever.

God initially created the world perfectly where men was supposedly enjoying all the wonders of God’s creation. It is not true that men were created like robots by God in the beginning because from the very beginning God gave Adam and Eve the capability to follow His instructions. Adam and Eve have the will to eat or not to eat the Tree of knowledge. But the tree of knowledge however gave us evil tendency. The disobedience of Adam and Eve continually established a running battle between God and Evil that has continued up this day.

God created men out of love so He wanted to get them back from Satan. So Jesus went to earth to reconcile men and God. The fall of Man in Genesis is an inspired history that explains why things are the way they are in the world: the dilemma of sin, the pain and suffering, death and judgment and the existence of heaven and hell. But is it not wonderful somehow that because of sin human lives became more creative, dynamic and complex? Sin gives us pain and suffering and out of it humans learn to be forgiving, compassionate, hopeful and more loving. Suffering makes us weak before Him
