1.Acquire or Develop Talent
As I read the case, the Tanglewood Store has many employees. It has 215 employees per store. I think that the organization should choose Develop Talent. They have enough employees already so instead of acquiring more employees they will just develop and train the skills and talent of their employees. In that way the company will gain competitive advantage by using them in the future.
2.Hire Yourself or Outsource
In my opinion, Tanglewood Store should choose Hire Yourself. There’s no need in using outsource because the organization itself will be the one to recruit and select employees. It will lower the expenses of the organization because they don’t have to acquire certain person to help them in decision making in hiring employees. They have their own bases on how to acquire people; recommendations are provided to the store like advertising for new recruits through internet based strategy.
3.External or internal
I think that Tanglewood Store should acquire External Hiring because based on the case the organization has been experiencing the rapid organization growth since 1984 until several years. Because of this they have to use the expansion strategy which there’s a possibility that a number of new jobs created. Many employees will be needed to fill in the new jobs created so they will come up on hiring externally because they can’t put another task on the regular employees it can cause labor shortage.
4. Core or Flexible Workforce
As I read the case, Tanglewood Store should focus on both Core and Flexible Workforce. All their employees are members of the core workforce. I suggest that they should retain and avoid letting go because they don’t know that they are sacrificing those have the talent and potential to carry the work. The organization should develop and train their employees as the case state there that the organization itself seeks to develop and maintain. And also they should use flexible workforce because in times of peak seasons such Christmas they need temporary employees to avoid labor shortage and for fast production.
5.Hire or Retrain.
I think it will be wise if Tanglewood prioritize retaining employees. Instead of hiring more employees why don’t they just retain their employees to develop talent and train their skills? The organization itself seeks those qualified inviduals who will carry the Tanglewood philosopy in the future. This means that nees employees who are highly skilled one and have the talent that can be used by organization. So I think it is a must that they should retain their employees in order to achieve their goals.
6.National or Global
In my opinion, Tanglewood Store should use Global. Because of inevitable expansion of organization they surely can’t avoid to acquire more employees. To be globally competitive the tanglewood should offshore to other country so that the business will expand more and can acquire employees cheaply. By offshoring the company can minimize their expenses because they can manufacture goods or provide services more cheaply than they can in their own country and in addition they can discover more talented and highly skilled out there.
7.Attract or Relocate
I think that Tanglewood should use relocate because it is better to meet those potential people in personal than attracting them to go to your company. The organization will go to the other country to search potential employees and they have the opportunity to survey some universities that have high rate of talented and skilled graduates. And approach them to convince to work with the organization. By acquiring them, the company gain competitive advantage.
8.Overstaff or Understaff
As I read the case, I think Tanglewood store should prioritize overstaffing. We know that the organization has 215 employees so instead of letting go those employees they should just maintain their worforce even they are overstaff. Retaining those employees who have talent and skilled one can give the company’s benefit in the future. As the organizational value and culture, Tanglewood seeks to develop and maintain.
9.Short and Longterm Focus
I think it would be better if Tanglewood will be using Longterm focus. The organization will just developed and trained employees skills and talent rather than acquiring temporary employees. Those regular employees can do multiple jobs in case if there is a labor shortage arises. The organization will gain more benefit from their employees and employees as well can gain benefits from their company. Just like the philosophy of Tanglewood “if you tell someone exactly what to do, you’re getting half an employee. If you giver someone the space to make their own decision you’re getting a whole person.”
10.Person/Job or Person/Organization Match
As I read the case, I think it would be better if they will use both person/job or person/organization match. The organization will acquire employees that must match the norms, ethics and practices of the company because tanglewood has been based their culture and values. And also if they acquire applicants it must possess the KSAO’s needed for the job or meet this specific job requirement.
11.Specific or General KSAO’s
In my opinion, Tanglewood Store should acquire general KSAO’s. As I read the case the organization provides employees information about the company and encourage them them to act like manager. In other words, they are not into specific KSAO’s, so they I think they only need general KSAO’s possed by an employee. They can do multiple jobs by their ability to adapt, being flexible, and of course they have the general KSAO’s.
12.Exceptional or Acceptable Workforce Quality
I think Tanglewood Store should use acceptable workfoce quality because as what I read in the case all employees share al tasks. the organization didn’t put some pressure to their employees because they work there as a team and help each other. The associates in this case will make themselves available to help the other members of the team. And they are provided the knowledge about the company so they all know the work process of the organization.
13.Active or Passive Diversity
I think Tanglewood Sore should into active diversity especially nowadays many company been competing to be ahead than other company. So for the organization not being left behind they have to gather information through their employees about the needs of their potential customer. Because labor force is becoming increasingly diverse in terms of demographic, values and languages they have to survey and gather data to meet the needs of consumer. Just like teenager needs, they have to search and acquire information in order to hit the satisfaction of their customer. Conclusion:
Therefore Tanglewood should just retain/ keep their employees to develop and train their skills and talent in order for the company to have highly skilled employees. And the organization will avoid losing great and potential employees. However, Tanglewood has been expanding for many years so they have to acquire employees that possess the KSAO’s required by the company for the certain job and match the ethics, norms and practices of the company. In business world, the organization should not left behind of the changes. In terms of Global competitiveness, they should compete with the other company and embrace challenges to be the top in the business world.
