Global Organization is an International Alliance involving many different countries. In short, global organization is the one which has got international presence. As a result of this, it is very important for global organizations to find the right employee with the right skills set. According to the article, the main skills required to work in a global organization are – 1)The ability to deal with ambiguity and constant change – and love it. 2)The ability to be informed about the industry, the informal and the formal organization, and where the power is located. 3)The ability to take moderate risks and take a step forward in an unfamiliar situation. 4)The ability to act in a diplomatic way and build lasting relations – in the real and in the virtual world. 5)The ability to create visions about the future and how you and your part of the organization fit in the larger picture. 6)The ability to create strategies, as well as put them into practical plans and actions.
7)The ability to execute leadership, regardless of position, and have respect for different nationalities, cultures and religions. The strong points which I think will help me work in a global organization are – 1)Adaptability – The biggest strength I believe is my Adaptability. I can easily adapt myself by understanding and accepting different cultures. I have always believed when you have to work in a different country, you need to understand their culture, their social structure and their way of doing business. The faster you adapt, the easier it will be to achieve success in a new environment. 2)Ability to learn – I am always open to learning new ideas and processes. Working in a global organization gives an individual a chance to interact with people from different backgrounds.
I am a keen observer and listener to different ideas which I can apply in my daily work. 3)Language Skills – Learning different languages is a very important quality to achieve success in different parts of the world. Even being from India I have had all my education in English since English is the most spoken language is many countries. I am also very fluent in different regional Indian languages and had taken up some German. In future I look forward to enhance my German and French skills which I believe will only help me. 4)Time Management – I am very strong in Time Management and always respect other peoples’ time. This quality is not only required in any multinational corporation but in all straits of life. This quality I believe leaves a positive impression on any individual coming from any part of the world. 5)Strong Inter-personal skills – I have the ability to clearly express myself and also understand other’s perspective, be it my own country or a foreign one. This skill is very important to achieve success working in a team.
According to me, following are my weaknesses which I need to develop to work in a global organization – 1)Networking skills – I am bit of a shy person who hesitates to initiate the things. To do business and work in a new environment, one would need to contact people, make friends and establish relations. This requires abilities to interact with people, strong networking qualities and people skills. And hence, networking skills are one of the most important skills needed to work in a global organization which I need to develop on. 2)Initiative – As I already mentioned, I tend to not take initiative and I know that people who take initiatives and come out with solutions always succeed in dynamically changing environments. Organizations recognize employees who take initiatives and build their own path.
3)Leadership – I lack leadership qualities required to lead people, motivate others and give others the right instructions to execute tasks. I am hesitant to take decisions that are big, which is an essential quality of a good leader. I am aware about my weaknesses and I am continuously developing on my weaknesses by practicing to overcome them. I make a list of reasons of why I am having those weaknesses and act on the ways to change them. I always believe that if a weakness is really holding you back and you can’t get around, one of the options is to improve it. I am aware that I lack initiative skills and I am trying to overcome it and beginning to take initiatives in talking to new people I meet. At the end, I always appreciate myself if I am able to overcome my weaknesses to some extent. References – The Global Business Person: What is the Secret for Success?
