While there are those who believe that with an ounce of luck and a ton of persistence anything can be accomplished, I believe that there is no reason to expend so much energy and rely on luck. I believe in taking hold of my destiny and carving out a future for myself based on the decisions that I make in life. Life is simply too short and too precious to be left to luck alone. This is why I have chosen to apply for this major in accounting/ risk finance at this prestigious University….

Hume and the Idea of Personal Identity

Hume considered the idea of identity to be both fictitious and perception based (Hume, 1739). His philosophy was that we as humans could only perceive, or imagine a concept of self based on various thoughts and images that we could see at any given time. But if Hume were to argue that Self existed, it would do so as a constant, unchanging element, of which we could be continually aware. Hume subscribed to the Bundle Theory in that he claimed the image of Self was dependent on a range of different variables, or perceptions, that were in a constant state of change. Because of this change element, the concept of identity, which one would presume was unchanging, must be false….

Continuing Personal Development

For years, the only way to format HTML in a visually appealing way was to use tables. As the web evolved, designers wanted to do more than just display text, they wanted to emulate printed documents. This was done through CSS or cascading style sheets. With this, designers are able to separate content from presentation, and gain more precise control over layout. Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS, allow you to modify properties of existing HTML elements. With style sheets you have increased flexibility and the capability to add several attributes that are not available with normal HTML. The word “cascading” applies to a hierarchy of importance in that the user has the highest level of control. By applying a user-selected…

Personal Responsibility and Academic Success

To obtain academic success through personal responsibility individuals must take ownership of his or her goals. Prioritizing tasks, such as time management, identifying purpose and goal setting are essential in one’s path to success. Even though there may be outside influences that may change life’s course, personal responsibility is necessary for academic success because every choice made is one’s own responsibility and every individual can decide how to shape he or her future. Personal responsibility is the privilege to make his or her own choices and obligations in life.
