The article, “Clinton: U. S. Risks ‘Collapse’ Without Obesity Solution,” was published in CNN International Online. The United States former president, Bill Clinton, was in the forefront talking about obesity as a national crisis regarding the health and well-being of over thousands of Americans all over the country. Clinton claimed there is an apparent reason why the factors contributing to obesity should be wiped out, because it endangers the future of the nation.
The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention has released some figures, which reveal the overwhelming number of Americans who are obese. CDCP stated that for the total population of adults, two-thirds of them are obese, and for the total population of children, one-third of them are obese. (Willingham, 2008) This is a serious issue that everyone should be aware and be informed of. Not all of us are watching what we eat or minding if we get little or no exercise.
This is simply because we are not putting much weight and value on the importance of health in our daily lives. I have read dozens of magazines, journals, newspaper articles, books, and watched on television, the dangers of obesity. Obesity is not an illness alone, but a start of more severe medical conditions and diseases to come, such as diabetes, heart diseases, etc. There are even risks of death if obesity is not addressed by the nation. This is to agree with the former president that obesity should be put to an end.
Learning from this course, and knowing what I know about physical fitness and wellness, makes me responsible for advocating health and well-being. This is the time to actually put what I learned into action in order to save others from the perils of obesity. People need to be informed. They need to be educated about all aspects of physical fitness and wellness, and they need to understand the risks and the dangers of obesity. From education, people are able to realize the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle, and of course lots and lots of exercise.
There are many options for people who want to lose wait through exercise programs and continue living healthily by knowing good foods that are equally nutritious. All these valuable information, I learned from this course.
