MS-13 is termed has the most violent organized crime group in the US. The gang originated from El Salvador as a reaction to a civil war conflict (Logan, 2009). However, immigrants who managed to flee to America reorganized the group for the purposes of defending fellow immigrants from the discriminative practices of local Mexican American population gangs. According to the FBI, the gang comprises of about 10,000 members in over 33 states of the US (Franco, 2008).
The group is also common in other Central American nations such as El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Vancouver, and Edmonton. The group is commonly characterized by their large tattoos in their bodies and face, usually blue and white in color (Kinnear, 2009). They have three ways of initiating new members; 1) recruit can qualify by committing extreme violence such as severe beating, rape or murder of an innocent victim, 2) recruit beaten by five strong gang guys as other members count to 13, or 3) particularly for ladies, they are rape by up to 14 gang members (Logan, 2009).
MS-13 is believed to engage in drug and illegal weapon distribution, money laundering, murdering, raping, robbery, prostitution, home invasions, and carjacking as well as human trafficking (Franco, 2008). According to some claims, the group has a political ideology as in conjunction with some white supremacists; they serve to undermine the social, political, and economic efforts by the black Americans (Kinnear, 2009).
Nevertheless, their violent acts are notably none discriminative of race, a factor which makes it are potential terrorist group in the American nation (Franco, 2008). This is why the American law enforcement is striving hard to combat the group by deporting suspects their mother country, El Salvador. The MS-13 is well known for using guns, knives, and machete to execute atrocities against innocent victims as well as their own defiant members (Franco, 2008).
