It can cause them to be a loner because they are afraid to go out because of fear of leakage or accidents, which can cause them to have depression. They may not like to do certain activities with children as certain activities may make their bladder control worse and incontinence pads might not be absorbent enough. Instead of going out and doing their day to day chores like shopping they may opt in staying in and sometimes become a bit of a recluse.
List common causes of difficulties with incontinence
Incontinence can be caused for various reasons. A person could have a urinary tract infection or had an operation that may have dislodged the bladder or bowel. Old age can be another cause or people that have dementia that can’t remember or have slower mobility to go to the toilet. In females stress incontinence due to child birth can weaken muscles causing leakages even when coughing or sneezing. In men enlarged prostate or prostate cancer can case incontinence.
Explain how an individuals personal beliefs and values may affect the management of continence A person may not want to be washed or changed by a person of a different sex due to religious or cultural beliefs. They may only want to go to the bathroom to get changed by a person of the same sex. Many people that were completely independent as they get older try to keep their independence and are too embarrassed or ashamed to be seen naked by the opposite sex.
