There are few solutions but many a times, we findourselves “making them works” by finding “ways to work around” system inadequacies. Moreover we have limited staff resources, these “work around” waste time, effort, andskills that should be spent on user services. Many solutions do not keep up with the technological changes and hence prove to betime wasters.

Library Management system is a small footprint software suitable for personal /individual Libraries. You can store the information about the books and other materialand control the movement of the same. Silent Features * Control the movement of books and other material and avoid loosing the same. * Search if you have a specific book in your collection based on the title, author etc. * Print the spine labels for the book. Find what a specific person has borrowed from you. It offers the following modules Cataloguing, Circulation, Queries Cataloguing – Salient Features.

You can create a catalogue of your books, CDs, maps, drawings and all similar collections using this module. It supports various classification schemes likeDDC, DD, and CC etc. The cataloguing module is based on AACR2 (Anglo AmericanCataloguing Rule  Circulation Circulation module deals with issue and return of material from the Library. It is a barcode and smart card enabled system and hence the issue and return of material is handled uniformly. You can issue member cards and also do the transactions 1. 1. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY * CEU- CENTRO ESCOLAR UNIVERSITY.

Centro Escolar University was established on June 3, 1907 by Dona Librada Avelino and Dona Carmen de Luna for the instruction and training of the youth in all branches of the arts and sciences. With some benches, a single blackboard and a few books, the two educators steadfastly nurtured a dream of establishing a nationalistic center of learning for Filipino women. The University Library in Mendiola, Manila is an integral part of the educational facilities of CEU. the resources consist of PRINT, NON PRINT collection and ELECTRONIC materials. Print materials are composed of volumes of books supplemented with foreign and local periodical titles received through subscriptions, gifts and exchange. Non print materials include the CD-ROMS of books and periodicals and microfilms. Internet facilities are available for electronic resources and online subscriptions to professional journals. The following are installed in the different units of the library: 1.

CD-ROM of books and periodicals available at the Reference, Dental, Periodicals and the Graduate Unit Library 2. Internet facilities – available at the Cybrary 1 & 2, Dental and the Graduate Unit Library. 3. Microfilms of selected local newspapers and magazines available at the Periodicals Unit. 4. Online subscriptions to professional journals available online on the web site. 5. Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) database for books accessible in all library units, CEU Intranet and Internet. 6. Periodical Index database – available at the Periodicals, Dental and Graduate Unit Library.

The University Library is located on the first, mezzanine and second floors of the Carmen De Luna Hall (CDL), and on the second Floor of the Library Avelino Hall (LAH). The Dental Unit Library is situated on the third floor of Dent/Science Building. Borrowing & Circulation RESERVED BOOK COLLECTION – Books requested by faculty members in the various courses are placed on reserve. These books may be read in the reading room only on one-hour loan subject to renewal if no other students need them. Overnight loans are allowed for reserved books at 4:00 p. m.and are to be returned not later than 8:00 a. m. the next day. Reminders:

1. The Identification card is non transferable and must be presented to the librarian every time a home reading book is borrowed or renewed. 2. The Identification card is necessary every time a student enters the library. Fines and Penalties 1. A fine of Php2. 00 a day is charged for failure to return a circulation book on its due date. 2. For failure to return a reserved book on overnight loan at 8:00 a. m. , the following class day, a fine of Php2. 00 for every succeeding hour. 3.

A book that is lost should be reported at once to library service desk where it is charged. 4. A book not returned within seven (7) days after due date or recall shall be replaced within thirty (30) days. 5. Any library user who shall deface, mutilate, or steal any library material or property shall be required to replace the same and in appropriate cases be referred to the Student Affairs Office. 6. Lending of the identification card and with book borrowed on it will subject the owner of the card to suspension of library privileges for two (2) weeks. 7.

A library user who fails or refuses to settle his outstanding library account shall not be: a. allowed to register b. permitted to use the library c. given clearance from the library 8. Making noise or loud conversation and eating within the library premises are strictly prohibited. 9. Using a cellular phone inside the library is prohibited. Any student violating this rule shall be penalized according to the University’s system of discipline. 10. Violation or infraction of the rules and regulations of the library shall not be excused on the plea of ignorance.

CIRCULATION UNIT – Books in the Circulation Unit may be borrowed for home use:  1. Filipiniana Reference books such as Philippine yearbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographical sources, almanacs, etc. are for Room Use only and may be photocopied for 15 minutes only. 3.

Undergraduate Research Collection – a collection of undergraduate theses and feasibility studies submitted by the graduating students to their respective school/college and turned over to the library for use as references by incoming fourth year students. These materials are for ROOM USE ONLY. Service Hours: Regular Semester/Summer session Monday-Saturday – 8:00 a. m. – 5:00 p. m. The system allows on-line inquiry regarding NALLRC resources. The OPAC is located at the third floor lobby of the NALLRC Building. Electronic Resources On-line database such as e-books and e-journals by Gale Virtual Library and Academic OneFile as provider are one of the latest Information technology tools that the NALLRC has acquired.

Multimedia Resources The NALLRC also acquires multimedia resources, which are in various titles for the research needs of the clientele that support its mission, vision, goals and objectives of. The following multimedia resources are audio cassettes, beta tapes, Compact disks, compact disks-read only memory, floppy disks, slides, VHS tapes. U. S. T. Library System University of Santo Tomas Central Library (UST Central Library) boasts a precious collection of rare books and manuscripts which are unique in the Philippines.

It has several sections such as General References and Information, General Circulation, Music, Science and Technology, Rare Books, Civil Law, Graduate School, Social Sciences, Filipiniana, Spanish, Asian, Map Room, Humanities, Serials and Old Books. We conclude that the design and evaluation of this database is the basic for having databases of books. Recommendation We are recommending the designs and evaluation of the database for small libraries. Also we recommend the system for free testing. As the system is for free testing we are willing for a free tutorial about our system. And we are highly recommending this system for schools to have an organized and well-provided library for the access of the students.
