High School Graduation

Throughout life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always something that comes out of the situation. One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be graduation. So it was the day before graduation and we were having our graduation practice. Standing outside in the line alphabetical order me and classmates talked and waited for practice to start. The sun was beating down, the smell of fresh cut grass filled out our nose. We were all just ready to get it over with. Sitting talking with my classmates discussing our future plans. Debating whether or not we will miss high school, but knowing we will definitely miss each other. So finally…

Do Grades Eliminate Competition?

Every parent wants to boast that his or her child is “a straight A student,” “at the top of her class,” or “on the honor roll.” What generally determines this prized status? Grades. Most often, report cards are the primary means of measuring a child’s progress through school. Doing “well” in school is measured by a series of letters on a piece of paper: A is great; B is ok; C, not so great; and D or F? You’re grounded! Some parents reward children for good grades, ascribing a monetary value to each good letter, or taking away privileges for each bad one. For many families, the grade is the goal. But what do those letters really mean? And do…

High School Drop-Outs

When one out of three students fails to graduate in the nation, there has to be a main issue, a source of frustration or maybe hopelessness, causing students to give up on their educations when they had an opportunity to go further. When people feel that there is no hope or chance, they will give up. This is what is happening to high-school students leading them to drop-out of school despite the fact that a high-school diploma could be so beneficial to their lives and the fact that it can be prevented. In the article “High School Dropouts Costly to American Economy”, Sarah White said, “The teachers didn’t care, the students didn’t care. Nobody cared, so why should I?” I…

Welcome Speech

We received superior teachers and additional resources based on our status as “gifted”, while kids who naturally needed those resources much more than us wallowed in the mire of a broken system. And now, we stand on the precipice of our lives, in control of our lives, based purely and simply on luck and circumstance. If you truly believe that the demographics of Hunter represent the distribution of intelligence in this city, then you must believe that the Upper West Side, Bayside and Flushing are intrinsically more intelligent than the South Bronx, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Washington Heights, and I refuse to accept that. It is certainly not Hunter’s fault that socioeconomic factors inhibit the educational opportunities of some children from birth,…

Computerized Grading System

Automation has had a notable impact in a wide range of industries beyond manufacturing (where it began). Once-ubiquitous telephone operators have been replaced largely by automated telephone switchboards and answering machines. Medical processes such as primary screening in electrocardiography or radiography and laboratory analysis of human genes, sera, cells, and tissues are carried out at much greater speed and accuracy by automated systems. Applying automation to Grading systems wherein it will also make a task easy and accurate. Education must share the responsibility of developing technologically literate people (Bitter & Legacy, 2008). Both systemic reform and curriculum cannot be achieved without the aid of technology (Fletcher & Wolf, 2007). Grading and reporting are relatively recent phenomena in education. In fact,…

First Nations and the Justice System

First Nations are badly represented within our current justice system. They face a forced environment that does not represent their needs. Many of the problems that First Nations peoples face with respect to the justice system are influenced by their historical place in native and early in Canada. The first European settlers view of land ownership was a lot different from the Aboriginal theory that all things are related and development is viewed as circling the four parts of life: physical; mental; emotional; and spiritual. The Europeans didn’t understand the Aboriginal spiritual attachment to their land. The concept of land ownership was foreign to Aboriginal culture and they could not understand the concept of owning lands, they believed that land…

Statement of Purpose

I am excited at the prospect of pursuing a Masters in Accounting program (MAC) at North Carolina State University. I am confident that this program which integrates Accounting, Finance and Business studies is the most appropriate choice for me. Graduating from this program will enable me to carve out a career path in Accounting that I have always envisioned for myself here in the United States. My parents, who possess advance degrees in Business Administration, have been the biggest source of inspiration for me and have always encouraged me to pursue graduate level education in the United States. As a child, I was always fascinated with numbers and my interest in Math developed early in my academic career. I decided…

Graduation Speech

Four years ago we stepped into high school as individuals seeking to do well, to find our identity, to find our best friend. We opened our lockers for the first time, looked at our schedules, and thought about how awesome it was to finally be in high school. Four years ago we met our best friend, went to our first school dance, and had a crush on a cute senior. Four years ago, we couldn’t wait to get older. Three years ago we stepped into high school believing that we owned the place. No longer the lowly freshman, who when we look back now were completely weird. It’s safe to say we all thought we were much cooler, but who…

Graduation Day Speech

April 1, 2007 – our graduation day. Our final day in high school. The day we’ve been waiting for. The day wherein we are going to close another chapter of our lives, to finally cross the line, to reach the stars and sadly, to say goodbye. Four years. Four years of projects, assignments, examinations, bundles of research papers – cramming so hard just to pass it on the deadly deadline – clearances, and a whole lot more. But then, it’s still just the first phase, we still need to continue what we have started. And that’s the college life. A lot will change, for sure. But the memories, the fun, the experiences… It all can’t be taken away just like…

My Personal Statement and Future Plans

My name is Ployroong Phanmeechaow. I’m a junior at Thammasat Business School. My actual major is accounting, and now I’m studying financing for my minor too. Although studying major and minor is very difficult and needs more effort, I think I have many abilities that can help me doing it very well. My grade point average (GPA) now is very satisfied to me and my family, but in the first semester of the first year, my grade point average isn’t good enough. I think it’s because I couldn’t adjust myself to the new environment in every field such as staying far from my family, making friends with new friends and reading more books than high school. I’m a diligent and…

Graduation Speech

” I’m still a nobody. But once I graduated here, I would be a somebody,” one quote from a person I never had a chance to meet and shake hands with . It is such a very rare day for ordinary students like us who have been part of each person’s lives. Happy Graduation Day! This school will miss me, perhaps….

Graduation Speech for the Class of 2012

Our high school years seem to have passed in a flurry of activities: courses attended, grades attained, extra-curricular activities, social events and lessons learned. It is hard to believe that the next few months will see the Graduating Class of 2013 facing new horizons and challenges. Some of us may stay closer to home, some may move slightly further away and yet others may find themselves in a totally different continent. Where ever you may find yourself, hold true to what shaped your yesterdays; acknowledge and appreciate what you are today and dare to be all that you can be tomorrow! As the Graduating Class of 2013, we need to express our gratitude for the wonderful opportunities that we were…

Creating Performance Goals and Measures for Your Charter School

This document is designed to provide guidance and assistance in developing sound goals and measures – both educational and organizational – for inclusion in your charter agreement with [Authorizing Agency]. The following guidance focuses especially on providing deeper guidance for developing strong educational goals and measures – i.e., those that will comprise the Academic and Student Non-Academic Performance indicators of your charter agreement. This task demands particular attention because educational performance indicators are often more challenging to state in meaningful, objective terms than are non-educational measures, such as those focusing on Organizational and Management Performance (the third category of performance indicators required for your charter agreement). However, the principles for developing all of these types of goals and measures are…

High School Dropouts

High school dropouts — a growing problem in our society, or is it? After hearing about dropouts heading back to school to receive a diploma on the local news, I often wonder what they were missing out on. I mean, does a dropout really need to head back only to solve a quadratic equation or to write an five paragraph essay on The American Revolution? I’m willing to bet that more than half of parents who’ve graduated from high school don’t even know how to solve a quadratic equation or how The American Revolution came about. It’s really annoying to witness activates telling students to stay in school when some of the activates themselves could not accomplish high school level…

High School and Graduation

Time gets closer to the day we move our tassels from senior to graduate. Graduation steps on the back of our heels like the annoying freshman running late for class. It acts as if it is going to creep up on us, but we all know it will be here soon. It tip-toes in the back of our minds. Graduation: a day of freedom, maturity, and proof that nobody is any better than another. “There are many different ways of following through… Sometimes it’s about going there, not getting there. Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination. “ –Drake. This quote says a lot. He actually spoke at a graduation, and told that graduation class…

High School and New Tech High

I never knew going to high-school would be such a big deal for me. High-school never seemed so challenging, but my first year of high-school was a challenging year, but also a fun year. Going to high-school was like the start of a new life, actually it was the start of a new life because I knew I would learn so much and become a mature young lady. My first year of high-school I went to Arsenal Technical High-school. I was in New Tech High, it was an academy that was mostly about Technology and projects. Yes, I was nervous the first couple of days of school, but after a couple of days I had got use to it. I…

Pathways to College

Path“Less than 17% of African-American and Latino students will finish high school and graduate from college. ” (Landy, 2013) Less than 70% of students in Milwaukee graduate from high school. (Pathways PowerPoint, 2013) Only a little over 25% of the people in Wisconsin hold a four-year college degree. (O’Connell, 2014) This educational disparity leads to economic disparity which affects the entire state, not just the urban areas with a higher achievement gap since most jobs with an annual salary over $30,000 will require a four-year degree. (Winters, 2014) There is a program called Pathways to College that is working hard to change these shocking statistics. We are here tonight to show you that Pathways to College is a cause worthy…

Reaction Paper About Jobs

As I go watch the Fifteen minutes commencement speech that Steve Jobs, the once-and-again CEO of Apple who has spearheaded a few of the most iconic products in technology, entertainment and design, told in the commencement exercise held in Stanford University, I realized that everything happens because there is a purpose. Life does not only depend in any success and failure that we are about and is going to face all through our lives During his speech on the said commencement exercise, he told three different stories about his life. The first story was entitled, “Connecting the Dots”. He talks about how he patterned his life into the dots that represents each important event that happened in his life. He tackled…

How would a Scholarship Assist Me After Graduation

In my findings, it is not just enough to have enrichment of goal, fervency of passion and the keeping of focus, there is the place of vital impact played by pecuniary support from guardian(s) to actualize the desire. I strongly believe many brave and highly intelligent ones have been choked out of their academic dream in life after graduation. Statistical findings have unarguably revealed that financial incapability in one of the factors responsible for thwarted vision in academic excellence. I am very proud to note however, that our school is making part of her contributions in easing students’ financial burden as a responsible institution in the society. The scholarship is a gesture I really appreciate whole heartedly. I do forward…

Education – Epistemology

Education is something everybody wants to attain but nobody knows how. Nevertheless, many psychologists express an idea that key qualifications and skills, that are required in contemporary life conditions, are gained out of school and college. The following statement may be supported by a number of valuable reasons, namely the students’ immatureness, high informational age’s changeability and predomination of personal experience. As for the first reason, most young learners are reluctant to study. They pay little attention to adults, who make them spend long hours sitting with a book. Pupils and students are by and large considered responsible for their future. To be on the level, it sometimes turns out to be much more enjoyable to play hooky with counterparts,…
