Critical thinking Essay

When it comes to knowing or believing how do we decide what way to follow? There are two ways to look at it empirical or reasoning. Empirical being evidence based knowledge of a certain experience we have had in the past. Reasoning being based on logic, or innate (born with) knowledge. Is it possible that both could be right and combined with each other? When we talk about our significant others do we know for fact that they love us, or do we believe that they love us? Melissa is Troy’s wife and he tends to think that she loves him whole heartedly.

This being based on empirical evidence on the things she does for him. The belief that Melissa loves Troy is based on evidence that she continues to show him by her actions on a daily basis. She cooks for him, cleans for him, she greets him with hugs and kisses when he gets home from work. She loves and takes care of the children for him well he is gone for work. Melissa tells him that she loves him daily. This is all evidential prove that she loves him, but their faith also gives them evidential prove based on the bible.

The bible states the woman should submit to the man take care of him, and that the man is the leader of the house financially and spiritually. This further proves that Melissa loves Troy because of the way she takes care of the house when he is gone. Now let’s look at it from a reasoning stand point, logic would tell you that she loves him also because why else would she continue to do the things she does if she did not in fact love him. Based on the evidence set forth it is of Troy’s opinion that Melissa in fact does love him and he knows this based on the evidence provided.

Knowledge is based on evidence being able to prove such so by Melissa cleaning, cooking, greeting him with a smile, and caring for the children are all signs of evidence that she loves him. Also, Troy knows that with logical thinking that she would not do these things if in fact she did not love him. Why would someone do all these things for someone they don’t love? As Troy stews over the evidence he can’t seem to find any evidence to prove to him otherwise, Troy looks at all his experiences with watching couples to together and gathers that they all have one thing in common.

They all take care of each other and support each other in life. One empirical reason for his thoughts is based on the experiences he has had with his parents and how they treat each other. His mother has always taken care of the house and the kid’s well they were growing up so that his dad could work and pay the bills. The second empirical reason would be by his experience with other relationships he has been in. They all started out with happiness and move to unhappy as time goes by. Troy believes that his other relationships past due to the lack of love for one another.

Third does the Bible, to Troy this is the most important factor in his knowledge of Melissa love him whole heartedly. She follows the same beliefs and faith that the bible sets forth for them. The first logical or necessary truth that Melissa loves Troy is based on her option to choose. She has a choice to love someone other than Troy, but she chooses Troy to be the one that she spends her time and money with. Secondly, is based on perception is reality. Troy’s perception is undisputable that she loves him.

He sees the smile that she carries with her whenever they are together, which gives the perception that she is happy and in love. Third and most important is that she professes her love by voicing it to everyone and in the light of God. She has professed her love for him in all aspects of her life whether it is vocally or written. After looking through the evidence displayed in the previous paragraphs it is still Troy’s belief that he knows without a shadow of doubt that Melissa loves him. The evidence set forth is overwhelming to believe otherwise. She proves to him on a daily basis that she loves him by the way she lives her life.

All the evidence set forth is adequate in nature and continues to be as they grow older. In conclusion, knowledge to belief basically comes down to evidential prove what to believe. As Troy believes that more people do love him then just Melissa like his parents, kids, and friends. The love his friends have for him is based on belief more than evidential prove. His friends say they love him but there is no evidence to prove it. References Editorial Board. (2011). The Big Questions. Schaumburg, IL. Words of Wisdom.
