Schematic view of the ocean bottom

1. In the Figure 1 schematic view of the ocean bottom, the vertical scale is given in kilometers (km). This vertical scale is vastly different from the horizontal scale. The vertical distance between scale markings is [(1)(10)(100)] km. 2. The ocean trench in the schematic view has a maximum depth of [(8)(80)(800)] km below sea level. 3. The distance between scale markings on the horizontal scale is 100 km. Comparison of the vertical and horizontal scales indicates that the vertical scale is exaggerated [(10)(100)(1000)] times relative to the horizontal scale. 4. The right portion of Figure 1 describes general characteristics of the ocean bottom in coastal areas that are tectonically passive (not near a plate boundary). The left portion of…

“The sea” by James Reeves

1) The two aspects being identified are the characteristics of the dog and the sea. James Reeves is personifying the sea as if it were a dog. 2) James Reeves is mentioning the vastness of the sea by calling it giant. By stating the sea as grey he means that it’s opaque and to give the image that the sea is strong and frightening. 3) Both the dog and the sea roll on the beach throughout the day. The dog runs and rolls along the sandy beach and the waves from the sea are the ones swashing through the sand and rolling in and out constantly. They both also gnaw the dog will nibble anything it encounters and the sea…

Coastal Management Report: Collaroy Beach

The Issue Coastal management is the dealings surrounding the management of development along the coastline with sustainability- being able to meet the needs of future generalizations while capitalizing the use of desired areas of the coasts for residential and commercial purposes. My written report on coastal management will revolve around the main issue explored in our field trip which is the gradual erosion of the foredune on Collaroy beach, and its effects on stakeholders (incl. residents, developers, specialist groups). This report will also include the decision making processes considered by the management (both local and state), as well as the descriptions of their actions/strategies, and thus the results of their policies. The LocationOur site of interest, Collaroy beach is located…

Reaction Paper

International Coastal Clean-up Reaction Paper Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup is the world’s largest volunteer effort for ocean’s health. Each year, thousands of volunteers from around the globe participate, clearing tons of trash from coastlines, rivers and lakes and recording every piece of trash collected. On a beautiful, hot, sunny and a little bit rainy Saturday, we participated in the Annual International Coastal Cleanup at Freedom Island near the Manila-Cavite Expressway. It started at 8:00 am and was well organised. We brought our own bags, gloves and even sticks to grab the rubbish with. We patrolled the beach looking for litter and found mainly small pieces like bottle tops, cigarette butts, shoes, slippers, plastics and foams. It was saddening to…

Descriptive Essay About Silvershells Beach in Destin

When I was a young child, my family would go to Silvershells beach in Destin, Florida for a week each summer. I remember that once you had to endure the ten hour drive down there, the paradise that was waiting always made it worth it. I suppose that Destin’s trademark was the smell of Banana Boat suntan lotion that lingered in the lobby of the condo. This is the most heavily air-conditioned room without a doubt. The Victorian-style architecture pillars fell in the middle of the room. Once you’re able to get settled in your room, standing on the balcony is ideal while you wait for everybody else to get ready. The view from here is always what my brain…

Coastal management involves developing strategies

Coastal management involves developing strategies that are designed to protect and preserve the coastal environment. The actions of humans have altered the operation of the natural coastal processes. During our fieldwork we have learned the key issues of coastal management and their strategies and the way they address them at Cronulla Beach. The three key geographical processes that shape the coastal environment are erosion, transportation and deposition. The key issues relating to coastal management at Cronulla beach are Pollution, Tourism, Introduced Plants and Population Growth. Pollution is one main key issue at Cronulla beach because people are littering they are eating on the beach. There are factories near the beach which is very bad for the environment as the smoke…
