Contraversy in Play Doubt

In an immoral place such as that presented in John Patrick Shanleys’ award- winning playwright Doubt, it would be unwise to assume the architect of the play would honor and comfort us with a greater and certain ending of the masterpiece. This brings us to the obvious question of what is certainty and how we can be certain of anything. According to Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, “There are various kinds of certainty. A belief is psychologically certain when the subject who has it is supremely convinced of its truth. Certainty in this sense is similar to incorrigibility, which is the property a belief has of being such that the subject is incapable of giving it up. ” If we are…

Saki’s “The Interlopers” vs. Callaghan’s “All the

In the story The Interlopers, Saki writes about two families that have been feuding for generations. He writes about how “interlopers” stop them from rivaling, and eventually bring the two of them to be friends only minutes before they are eaten by wolves. He does this by using dramatic irony. Through the character’s words he tells us what the two will do when they get back to town now that they are friends. This leads you to believe that the feud is over and everything is all right. The author then, however, allows the characters to be eaten by wolves; contrary to the resolution that could be concluded from the explanation and/or foreshadowing of the resolution. Saki’s purpose for writing this…

Revelation Essay

The opening lines of the poem initiate the main themes; “Black bull” introduces one of the themes which are gender stereotyping. This suggests the bull is powerful, strong and very angry. Females are then introduced in the poem, “eggs and milk”. This suggests females are pale, delicate and easily broken. The poet highlights the theme of stereotypes by placing “black bull” above “eggs and milk”. This is to effectively state that the black bull is on top of eggs and milk which emphasises on the importance of gender stereotyping. The second theme is introduced which is innocence and experience, “They call him Bob – as though perhaps you could reduce a monster with the charm of a friendly name”. Tone…

First 40 days after conception, embryos develop in the same way and have female and male anatomy If ovum is fertilised by a sperm carrying another X chromosome, the gonads develop into ovaries. If the ovum is fertilised by a sperm carrying a Y chromosome, the gonads cells convert into testes. The male internal organs develop and the female organs disintegrate. External male genitalia develop. All human embryos would develop into females unless they are masculinised by the Y chromosome. Sex DIfferences

This experiment performed by the males and females in the Tuesday 4pm psychology lab, was done as a replication of the Halari et al experiment in London in 2005. The hypothesis in the original experiment was that women will, on average, gain a higher verbal fluency score than men and men will, on average, perform more accurately than women on mental rotation. The results obtained from Halari et al’s (2005) clearly prove this hypothesis correct. The results also rejected the null hypothesis which says that men and women will not differ with respect to verbal and spatial performance. Our replication experiment also proved the hypothesis of Halari et al’s (2005) experiment correct and rejected the null experiment. Our experiment followed…

Little Red Riding Hood

The Power Struggle Throughout the world fairytales have been created and passed on to future generations, usually though oral practice; up until the late 1800’s were these fairytales written down. Each tale narrated the actions of its characters while embedding a lesson to help young children develop the right morals to grow into mature adults. One tale in particular teaches children to always obey their parents, though it also portrays a much more controversial idea. Through the story we can see a constant power struggle created by gender stereotypes and social constructs, between men and women. Little Red Riding Hood was originally created to entertain young children during the late 1600’s. Since then different versions have been written, portraying men…

Money in Sports

My question is: should female athletes get the same privilege as males do and receive the same amount of pay in sports. Girls spend just as much time and effort in their sport and training as males do however males bring in more money buy selling merchandise and can perform longer. Points for Cons (Against) Female athletes certainly do have the same privaledge by privileges I mean they are fully entitled to play sports professionally, and everything is almost similar, accept for the amount they are currently earning in general. However, a majority of professional sports have always been male dominated, but this is no excuse for females being ostracized. The reason male athletes earn more money is because male…

Poem Analysis on “Out, Out-, ” by Robert Frost

My emotions toward this poem are depressed, forlorn, and melancholy. In “’Out, Out-,’”, a young boy is at work about to go to dinner when suddenly the saw cuts off his hand. A boy his age shouldn’t have to die doing a man’s job. Work back then had unimaginable conditions that made you want to cry. The line that struck out at me the most was “Don’t let him cut my hand off- The, When he comes. Don’t let him sister!” So. But the hand was already gone. This made my whole body convulse at the thought of his hand being cut off and eventually causing his death. When breaking down the poem, I realized he used repetition of the…
