Psychodynamic Theories

As a group over the last few weeks we have been dicussing has a group the 3 main theories of counselling and after careful deliberation ive chosen to do my presentation on the psychodynamic theory. Psychodynamics is the theory and systematic study of the psychological forces that underlie human behaviour. It is especially interested in the dynamic relations between conscious and unconscious motivation . Psychodynamic therapies depend upon a theory of inner conflict, wherein repressed behaviours and emotions surface into the patient’s consciousness; generally, one conflict is subconscious . Psychodynamics was initially developed by Sigmund Freud ,Carl Jung and Alfred Adler. By the mid 1940s and into the 1950s, the general application of the “psychodynamic theory” had been well established….

Inferiority complex

A primary inferiority feeling is said to be rooted in the young child’s original experience of weakness, helplessness and dependency. It can then be intensified by comparisons to siblings, romantic partners, and adults. A secondary inferiority feeling relates to an adult’s experience of being unable to reach a subconscious, fictional final goal of subjective security and success to compensate for the inferiority feelings. One of its strengths is that it is a therapy for everyone in the society and its practitioners do mind about what kind of generation is coming that will inherit in a comprehensive ecological sense and one of its weaknesses has been fairly an amazing amount of family gathering and lifestyle information that is typically collected. Advantages of Adlerian…

Alfred Adler and Karen Horney

I agree with Alfred Adler when he states that a sense of inferiority drives people to succeed. I can relate to this theory because I am very affected by others’ actions around me. If somebody that I idolize is prospering in a certain area, I may feel inferior and strive to meet his or her level. For example, when running with a partner who is faster than me, I always push myself and increase my pace significantly. Many people are driven by comparison—they continually measure their own abilities against others’, experiencing a decrease in self-esteem when they perceive themselves as inferior. This idea rings true for me and is present in my life. To bring Adler’s theory into a modern…
